Unlike other tournaments, World 3 Cushion Survival is an attractive tournament with up to 4 players competing in one match.
A match will have 2 rounds and each round lasts 45 minutes. Each player gets 30 points before the match and for each point scored, the player gets 3 points, while the others get 1 point deducted. World number 2 player Tran Quyet Chien is the "opener" for Vietnamese billiards in the very tough tournament at 10am (Vietnam time).
Billiard player Tran Quyet Chien did not compete successfully on the opening day.
Tran Quyet Chien is in Group A with two Turkish players, Tasdemir Tayfun (ranked 13th in the world) and Tolgahan Kiraz (ranked 14th in the world) and Kang Ja-in (ranked 41st in the world) from the host country. Despite being ranked highest in the group, the Vietnamese player did not start well in the first round and was far behind his opponents in terms of points.
Entering the second round, Tran Quyet Chien played better but still could not turn the situation around and accepted the bottom position with only 44 points. Tayfun won the top spot with 76 points and his compatriot Kiraz came in second with 68 points. The host player ranked third with 52 points.
World champion Bao Phuong Vinh only ranked 3rd in Group D.
Meanwhile, in the match of Group D at 4 p.m., Bao Phuong Vinh played very well in the first half when he was on par with Marco Zanetti (Italy, world No. 11) and defending champion Nikos Polychro. (Greece, world No. 15). However, the disadvantage for the Vietnamese player was that he had to face very difficult situations from his competitor Zanetti in the second half.
This situation caused Bao Phuong Vinh to only finish third in Group D with 50 points after 90 minutes of play. Nikos Polychro. was the leader of the group with 7 points, Italian player Zanetti ranked second with 60 points and home player Son Jun-hyuk ranked last with only 33 points. In the next match, Chiem Hong Thai also played unsuccessfully and finished fourth in Group E.
Chiem Hong Thai also did not play successfully in group E.
With this result, all three Vietnamese players, Tran Quyet Chien, Bao Phuong Vinh and Chiem Hong Thai, will have to compete in a very tough play-off round tomorrow, August 23. This will be a very difficult round as the 12 players ranked 3rd and 4th in each group will compete to choose 4 places to the next round. The 12 players will be divided into 3 groups and the 3 best players in each group and 1 second place player with the highest score will advance.
