According to SF, the Russian military destroyed a Ukrainian command post and a long-range surveillance radar near the Kozilovka settlement in the Chernihiv region. Photos of the attack have been made public.

The command post and radar – a Ukrainian-built upgraded Soviet-made 36D6M – were spotted by a reconnaissance drone. The location was then quickly hit by Russian missiles.

The first attack destroyed the radar and some of the vehicles. Then came cluster missiles fired by Russia from Tornado-S multiple launchers and the second attack destroyed what was left.

The 36D6M is an airborne surveillance radar with a range of over 350 km. The radar can operate as part of the Soviet-made S-300 long-range air defense system. Ukraine claims that it has upgraded the radar to be able to operate with other modern air defense systems.

In recent months, the Russian military has stepped up its suppression of Ukrainian air defenses, damaging or destroying numerous Ukrainian radars and air defense systems. Ukrainian losses include NASAMS and MIM-104 Patriot systems.

Iskander tactical ballistic missiles and Tornado-S launchers are used in most of the suppression of enemy air defenses. Ground-based systems allow for faster reaction times.
