Digital classes in Thanh An island commune, Can Gio and Cu Chi district

In the 2022-2023 school year, for the first time, Ho Chi Minh City will pilot digital classes for IT and English in two primary schools with the aim of solving the shortage of teachers when implementing the 2018 General Education Program.

Thanh An Primary School (Can Gio District) and Trung Lap Thuong Primary School (Cu Chi District) are the two schools selected to pilot the program from the first semester of the 2022-2023 school year. These are also schools located far from the city center, lacking IT and English teachers, but having difficulty recruiting and transferring teachers from other places due to the remote location.

A total of 104 English lessons and 62 IT lessons were organized in the form of digital classrooms at these two schools.

Support digital classrooms in many schools in disadvantaged provinces

From the second semester of the 2023-2024 school year, the digital classroom model has expanded to include students from Muong Khuong and Si Ma Cai districts (Lao Cai). In particular, the digital classroom model solves the problem of a shortage of teachers for music, fine arts, foreign languages, and information technology at schools in remote areas, islands, etc.

Digital classes are not only organized with the support of the city's digital transformation support center at Thanh An primary school (Can Gio district, Ho Chi Minh City), Trung Lap Thuong (Cu Chi district, Ho Chi Minh City), Lao Cai province (teachers teach at a modern studio in the city, interacting and connecting directly with students at the schools) but are also implemented according to the 1-1 model. That is, teachers teach online via computer from a school in Ho Chi Minh City to support a school in a neighboring province.

This method has 14 teachers from 6 schools in Ho Chi Minh City participating in teaching, implementing 34 lessons. 8 primary schools in neighboring provinces are supported including Cao Van Ngoc, Con Dao district, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province; Tung Chung Pho, Lao Cai province and schools in Dien Bien province such as Muong Ang town, Ta Sin Thang; Nam Chua; Quang Lam; Phi Nhu.

Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training rewards primary school teachers who have effectively participated in implementing digital classrooms in recent times.

In the 2024-2025 school year, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training continues to support the implementation of English classes for a number of schools in the above localities. 47 teachers from 8 primary schools participated, conducting 271 lessons to support 8 schools in Con Dao district, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province; Lao Cai province and Dien Bien province mentioned above.

Mr. Nguyen Bao Quoc, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, said that in the coming time, Ho Chi Minh City will continue to guide schools to actively coordinate with professional departments and the city's digital transformation support center to support and build teaching sessions with a team of excellent teachers, the highest quality content, and use advanced technology so that students feel interested in learning with many new and dynamic methods.

The Department will also conduct many evaluations, comments, and lessons learned on organization, management, teaching expertise, and support platforms. At the same time, it will be necessary to make digital classrooms not only support primary school students in disadvantaged areas of Ho Chi Minh City and remote provinces, but also support primary schools in localities across the city that are lacking IT, art, music, and English teachers.
