Dong Bac Corporation: Efforts to supply coal for electricity production

In the summer of 2023, there was little rain, much sun, and unfavorable weather, so most of the reservoirs of our country's hydropower plants were in a state of moderate electricity production. Many reservoirs were below the dead water level, the generators were maintained at a moderate level... the result was a power shortage, many localities had to take turns cutting off power, significantly affecting production and people's lives.

In that context, the Government and relevant ministries, branches and units have many policies and solutions to remove difficulties in electricity production and supply. Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (TKV) recently committed to Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) to make efforts to ensure sufficient coal supply for electricity production. For its part, Dong Bac Corporation (Ministry of National Defense) also committed to EVN to increase coal output by 10% compared to the signed contract, and to implement the signing of annex contracts in stages.

Implementing the 2023 production plan, Dong Bac Corporation has signed contracts with 9 thermal power plants under EVN and 1 plant under TKV to supply 7.7 million tons of finished coal. To meet the above supply, these days, across all mines and at all stages of supply, officers, workers and employees of Dong Bac Corporation are devoting their efforts to providing products to thermal power plants, contributing to solving difficulties for the electricity industry.

According to Colonel Nguyen Danh Hieu, Party Secretary, Acting Chairman of Dong Bac Corporation, implementing the Prime Minister's direction, the Corporation has implemented measures to increase consumption output by 10-15%. Taking advantage of sunny days, mobilizing all machinery capacity, making the most of existing equipment to conduct mining in open-pit mines. Therefore, coal has been supplied on schedule to thermal power plants, especially in May and June. The supply source increased by 10% compared to the contract, urgently supplementing the thermal power plants: Duyen Hai 1, Mong Duong 1, Hai Phong, Thai Binh 1 and Quang Ninh. Particularly, Son Dong Thermal Power Plant (Bac Giang) will increase output by 0.18 million tons. In addition, the Corporation is also looking for partners with legal import sources, prioritizing sources from Laos, ensuring quality suitable for domestic factories at reasonable prices according to contracts and demand. At the same time, it is expected to supply about 0.8 million tons of imported coal directly to Southern thermal power plants through international bidding, which is a sudden increase in demand for the domestic electricity production industry.

Overcoming difficulties in weather conditions, rising fuel prices, difficulties in inspecting road and water transport vehicles, including the time required by the bidding process...
