Current situation of passenger bus routes to the Northern mountainous region

The Vietnam Road Administration has just requested the Departments of Transport in the northern provinces to proactively develop plans to temporarily suspend road transport activities during bad weather based on the developments of floods and rains. Many bus routes from Hanoi to the northern provinces have been temporarily suspended or reduced in operation.

Talk to PV Tien Phong , Mr. Nguyen Cong Dung - Director of Dung Thuy Bus Company - said that the bus company has had to temporarily stop running the routes Hanoi - Bao Lam, Bao Lac (Cao Bang) due to the complicated flood situation in the area. In particular, after the flash flood that left dozens of people dead and missing in Nguyen Binh district, the bus station in Cao Bang People do not dare to run through this area for fear of landslides.

“On the Thai Nguyen and Bac Kan routes, the floodwaters are still high, so we are limiting vehicles, especially at night,” said Mr. Dung.

Mr. Do Van Bang - Director of Sao Viet bus company operating the Hanoi - Lao Cai - Sapa route - said that the company has announced the temporary suspension of buses traveling to Sa Pa. For the Hanoi - Lao Cai route, buses are still operating normally but passenger transfer is facing many difficulties.

Meanwhile, the Hanoi - Yen Bai route, IC11 intersection of Hanoi - Lao Cai expressway has also been closed. With the current flooding situation in Yen Bai province, some bus companies have stopped transporting passengers to the city area.

The scene of a landslide in Bao Lac district (Cao Bang) caused a passenger bus to overturn.

Information with PV Tien Phong , Mr. Vuong Duy Dung - Deputy Director My Dinh bus station - said that, up to this point, the northern region has the Hanoi - Am Thuong (Phu Tho) and Bao Lam (Cao Bang) routes completely suspended, waiting for new announcements from local authorities to be allowed to operate. The Hanoi - Lao Cai route, currently, is also limited by bus companies.

With the flood situation still complicated, Mr. Dung said that the bus station recommends that bus companies must ensure the safety of passengers, or carefully study the routes and see if they are safe before running.

“The number of passengers coming to My bus station these past few days has been low, down more than 50% compared to normal days. The bus companies have also had to temporarily stop waiting for the flood situation to improve,” Mr. Dung shared.

Represent Vietnam Road Administration said that it has just continued to request the Departments of Transport in the Northern provinces to urgently direct units based on the weather situation to proactively have plans to temporarily suspend road transport activities during bad weather, ensuring the safety of human life and property.0

The Vietnam Road Administration requires businesses to proactively monitor and grasp the developments of rain and storms, and prepare plans to transport passengers in case of special incidents.

The use of vehicles for transportation business in bad weather (heavy rain, strong winds, landslides, flooding, etc.) must comply with the traffic organization and regulation plan of local authorities and forces.

Before putting a vehicle into operation, it is necessary to monitor weather forecasts, survey routes, and destinations to ensure safety for people and vehicles.

For bus stations, Vietnam Road Administration Request to proactively notify the development of rain and storms to transport units at the port to have a preparation plan.

"In case local means of transport are not sufficient to transport goods and passengers, please contact the Vietnam Road Administration to support the coordination of mobilizing means of transport from other localities," informed a representative of the Vietnam Road Administration.

Currently, the Cao Bang Department of Transport requires the suspension of all transportation activities in the districts of Nguyen Binh, Bao Lac, Bao Lam, Ha Lang, Ha Quang, and Hoa An, including passenger transport by bus, fixed-route passenger vans, taxis, and contract vehicles in the province until further notice.
