In the round of 16 of the women's singles at the Vietnam Open 2023, Nguyen Thuy Linh faced her compatriot Vu Thi Anh Thu. There was no surprise as the victory belonged to the number one female tennis player in Vietnam.

In the first half of the first set, Nguyen Thuy Linh showed her dominance. She took the lead and created a big gap over Vu Thi Anh Thu. With such a one-sided match, fans imagined a favorable start for the 1997-born player. However, she suddenly slowed down, allowing Anh Thu to shorten the score to 18-19.

However, Anh Thu could not take advantage of the excitement to score. She made many mistakes and lost 18-21 in the first set. In the second set, Anh Thu tried to catch up with Thuy Linh. In the early stages of the second set, the audience enjoyed the high-speed back-and-forth shots.

However, when the score was 10-13, Anh Thu showed signs of running out of steam. Meanwhile, Nguyen Thuy Linh took advantage of the opportunity to extend the gap before ending the match with a score of 21-11.

In the quarterfinals, Thuy Linh met Choeikeewong from Thailand. This player was not seeded. The biggest rival of the Phu Tho player was the second seed Riko Gunji who was eliminated in the first round. Meanwhile, Thuy Linh was the first seed of the tournament.

In the men's singles round of 16, Le Duc Phat lost to No. 1 seed Koki Watanabe. In the first set, Duc Phat lost 15-21. In the second set, he quickly lost 8-21.

The quarter-final matches will take place tomorrow (September 15).

The Vietnam Open 2023 will take place from September 12-17 in Ho Chi Minh City. This year, the tournament will bring together 283 players from 23 countries and territories. The tournament is part of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Super 100 system, with a total prize of 100,000 USD.
