(Fatherland) - This morning, November 25, the Department of Education and Training of Thua Thien Hue province issued an urgent announcement about allowing students in the entire province to stay home from school due to heavy rain and rising flood waters on rivers.
According to the Department of Education and Training of Thua Thien Hue province, according to information from the provincial Hydrometeorological Station, floods on rivers in Thua Thien Hue are currently rising rapidly. At 5:00 a.m. on November 25, the water level of the Huong River at Kim Long station was at 2.88m, 0.62m below alert level 3; the Bo River at Phu Oc was at 3.65m, 0.65m above alert level 2.
It is forecasted that today (November 25) the water level on rivers will continue to rise, the flood peak on Huong River and Bo River may reach and exceed alert level 3, beware of widespread flooding in downstream areas.
On the morning of November 25, the rising water level of the Huong River overflowed the Da Dam area.
Due to the flood situation, to ensure the safety of students and teachers, the Department of Education and Training of Thua Thien Hue province announced that students in the whole province will be off school on November 25 until further notice.
Previously, due to the influence of a cold air mass moving south, from the evening of November 24, there was heavy to very heavy rain in Thua Thien Hue province. By 6:00 a.m. on November 25, very heavy rain was still concentrated in the upper reaches of the Huong River and Bo River.
The Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control of Thua Thien Hue province added that heavy rain will continue to cause floods in the downstream areas and there is a risk of flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas and along rivers and streams. The water level of Huong and Bo rivers is likely to be approximately at alert level 3 and above alert level 3 (Huong river alert 3: +3.5m; Bo river alert 3 +4.5m).
Therefore, it is recommended that localities and people proactively deploy response plans and regularly monitor flood and storm situation reports on mass media for prevention.
