Establishing an alliance of influencers (KOL/KOC) in Vietnam

On July 28, at the seminar "Building digital trust" organized by the National Cyber Security Association, a representative of the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention (A05, Ministry of Public Security) said that the Vietnam influencer alliance (KOL/KOC) is expected to launch next August.

At the seminar, experts commented that KOL/KOC today are not just celebrities or simple marketing tools, but are becoming a force shaping thinking, lifestyle and inspiring the community, especially the youth. The increasingly important role comes with potential risks if there is a lack of appropriate management mechanisms.

Mr. Nguyen Tien Cuong, representative of A05, said: “The greater the influence, the greater the responsibility. A true KOL needs to be sober in speaking, transparent in advertising and responsible to the online community.”

However, the current legal framework for KOL activities on social networks is still lacking and weak. Sanctions are not strong enough to deter, while many initiatives to support sustainable KOL development are only in the initial stages.

Faced with this reality, A05 and the National Cyber Security Association have launched three key initiatives. Notably, the establishment of the Vietnam KOL Alliance is noteworthy. The alliance will bring together reputable and influential KOLs/KOCs to spread reliable information, share digital safety skills, and implement community projects such as preventing fake news and online scams.

At the same time, an action program will also be launched, encouraging influencers to build and comply with a set of community rules, promote professional ethics, Vietnamese culture and self-control in online communication activities.

The first national KOL conference, scheduled to be held in August, will be the official launch of the KOL alliance. The event is expected to create a forum connecting KOLs, management agencies, businesses and digital platforms, towards a civilized, safe and sustainably developed cyberspace.
