Speaking at the meeting between General Secretary To Lam and representatives of teachers and education managers on the occasion of Vietnamese Teachers' Day this morning, November 18, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son said: "The new education system will fail if it only pursues knowledge provision, but it would be a mistake to completely abandon knowledge. It is necessary to equip students with basic knowledge so that they can use it as a tool for thinking, teaching them the ability to adapt and self-study to develop themselves, because in the immediate future there is 4.0, then 5.0 and many more in the future.

The greater the challenge, the more changes, the more new things are introduced, the more education needs to return to consolidate and equip learners with the most basic and fundamental things. Standing firmly on the most core values ​​of education are the values ​​of love, honesty, kindness and beauty, in addition to the new abilities and skills of the times."

Regarding teachers, Mr. Kim Son said: "The greater the challenge, the more teachers need to return to stand firm, consolidate the core values ​​of teachers to create a new intellectual class, a new team of teachers".

According to Minister Son, the values ​​from tradition are the spirit of "learning without getting bored, teaching without getting tired", the spirit of tolerance, altruism, sacrifice, the deep and broad love for humanity, the spirit of always renewing oneself, overcoming limits to lead learners, the spirit of daily renewal, self-study, self-adaptation to lead students.

"Those are eternal values ​​for teachers to be worthy teachers in all eras," Mr. Son acknowledged, saying that old qualities, new skills, new thinking, and additional foreign language and digital tools are things that teachers need to master.

Education reform in the next stage is essentially a reform in depth of the teaching force itself. The limits of teachers are the limits of education, the limits of education are the limits of a country's development. We teachers need to turn limits into limitless ones.

Not afraid but not "in the same class" with the teacher

On this occasion, Minister Nguyen Kim Son also expressed his thanks to students because "you have made efforts to study and strive constantly. It is you who have created the achievements of education and the success and growth of teachers. Without students, there would be nothing for teachers to do. In the new era, I hope you will study hard, be confident to express yourself, and study proactively and positively".

The head of the education and training sector advised: "In the era of freedom, democracy and equality, students do not need to be timid, small, fearful, or self-conscious in front of teachers, especially great teachers, but they also must not be "all in one class", destroying the solemn tradition of teacher-student relationship. Students need to be confident, self-reliant, self-reliant, self-reliant, actively express and assert themselves in their studies, but still have to be polite and respectful to teachers. Only by respecting teachers can one become a teacher.

The values ​​of freedom, equality, respect and courtesy, and the principle of teacher-student relationship are not contradictory. Tradition and the present must be unified.
