Mr. Nguyen Van Nen returns to Hanoi to take up new responsibilities.

On the morning of August 25, the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee held its third conference to launch the ceremony to announce and present the Politburo 's decision on personnel work.

Attending the conference were Mr. Tran Cam Tu, Politburo member, Standing member of the Secretariat; Mr. Le Minh Hung, Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Organization Committee and representatives of leaders of central agencies and Ho Chi Minh City.

Mr. Tran Cam Tu, Politburo member, Standing member of the Secretariat, presented the decision to Mr. Nguyen Van Nen and Mr. Tran Luu Quang, new Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee.

Specifically, the Politburo decided that Mr. Nguyen Van Nen, Politburo member, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, will cease to participate in the Executive Committee, the Standing Committee and cease to hold the position of Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee for the 2020-2025 term; and will participate as a Standing Member of the Subcommittee of Documents for the 14th National Party Congress.

At the same time, the Politburo assigned Mr. Nguyen Van Nen to monitor and direct the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee until the 14th National Party Congress.

The 14th National Party Congress is expected to be held in early 2026. To prepare for this important event, the Central Committee established 5 subcommittees, including the Documents Subcommittee with the task of preparing a political report and a summary report on 40 years of innovation to be presented to the 14th National Party Congress.

Mr. Nguyen Van Nen resigned from the position of Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee to take on a new assignment.

Mr. Nguyen Van Nen, 68 years old, from Tay Ninh , bachelor of law, senior political theory.

Mr. Nen started his career as a criminal police officer at the Go Dau District Police, Tay Ninh Province. He then became the Criminal Police Team Leader, Deputy Police Chief, and then Chief of the Go Dau District Police.

In 1992, he moved to Party and government work, holding the positions of Permanent Deputy Secretary of the District Party Committee, Chairman of the District People's Council, Secretary of the Go Dau District Party Committee, Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Organization Board, Chairman of the Tay Ninh Provincial People's Council, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, and Chairman of the Tay Ninh Provincial People's Committee.

In September 2010, Mr. Nen became the Secretary of the Tay Ninh Provincial Party Committee. He then transferred to the Central Government, holding the position of Deputy Head of the Central Highlands Steering Committee and Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department.

In November 2013, Mr. Nguyen Van Nen was approved to hold the position of Minister and Head of the Government Office. He was then elected to the Central Party Secretariat and appointed to the position of Chief of the Central Party Office.

From October 2020 to present, Mr. Nguyen Van Nen has been Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee.

Mr. Nguyen Van Nen visited and encouraged people in the area locked down due to the Covid-19 epidemic in July 2021.

During nearly 5 years as Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, Mr. Nen left his mark as a close leader, with a simple lifestyle, a scientific working style, and a solid spiritual support for the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee to overcome unprecedented difficulties.

During the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic, Mr. Nen directly visited a number of boarding houses in Binh Tan district to inquire about the lives of people in the locked-down area.

He also encouraged district and county party secretaries in Ho Chi Minh City to boldly use traditional medicine and dispense anticoagulants and anti-inflammatory drugs to Covid-19 patients for treatment at home without specific instructions from the Ministry of Health.
