World pepper price Today
At the end of the most recent trading session, the International Pepper Community (IPC) listed the price of Lampung black pepper (Indonesia) at 6,418 USD/ton; the price of Brazilian black pepper ASTA 570 at 7,600 USD/ton (down 3.95%); the price of Kuching black pepper (Malaysia) ASTA remained at 7,500 USD/ton (up sharply by 34.67%).
Muntok white pepper price is 8,377 USD/ton; Malaysian ASTA white pepper price increased to 8,800 USD/ton (a sharp increase of 17.05%).
Vietnamese black pepper price is trading at 7,800 USD/ton; 550 g/l type is at 8,000 USD/ton; white pepper price is at 12,000 USD/ton.
Ms. Hoang Thi Lien - President of the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA) informed that it is forecasted that pepper prices will cool down a bit in the near future, but it is difficult to return to the old price level.
With pepper prices reversing downward after a long period of vertical increase, the question now is whether pepper prices will continue to decrease? According to industry experts, the current supply is limited while market demand remains high, so pepper prices will hardly fall to 140,000 VND/kg.
Mr. Le Duc Huy - General Director of Dak Lak 2/9 Import-Export Company Limited (Simexco) - commented that the recent downward adjustment is reasonable, because the pepper price has increased too shockingly to 180,000 VND/kg. In fact, when the price reached 180,000 VND/kg, buyers were almost left out. However, the supply is currently tight, so it is difficult for pepper prices to fall below 100,000 VND/kg. Even the possibility of pepper prices falling to 130,000 - 140,000 VND/kg is difficult. This year's pepper crop was a failure. When the pepper price reached 110,000 - 120,000 VND/kg, many people sold out. Currently, there is a phenomenon of slow delivery to export enterprises.
According to VPSA, pepper output this year could be 170,000 tons, down about 10% compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile, in the first 5 months of the year, Vietnam has exported over 114,000 tons, equivalent to 67% of output. Thus, if not counting the inventory carried over from last year, our country still has about 60,000 tons of pepper to export in the remaining months of the year.
According to VPSA's preliminary statistics, in the first 16 days of June 2024, Vietnam exported 16,211 tons of pepper, of which black pepper reached 14,347 tons and white pepper reached 1,864 tons; total export turnover reached 77.8 million USD. The main exporting enterprises include: Phuc Sinh reached 1,890 tons; Olam Vietnam reached 1,286 tons; Haprosimex JSC reached 1,277 tons; Simexco Dak Lak reached 895 tons and Tran Chau reached 874 tons.
