In Vi Thanh from 5:00 a.m. on May 1, 1975, our troops simultaneously opened fire to attack enemy positions: the 21st Division Forward Command, the 31st Regiment base, Vi Thanh Airport, Chuong Thien sub-region, the police department and Duc Long sub-region... News of our army and people's victories on the battlefields poured in, causing the puppet army and government here to be extremely confused. Some soldiers and puppet troops fled, some surrendered to the revolution... By 9:30 a.m. on May 1, 1975, we liberated Vi Thanh town.

In Long Xuyen town, upon hearing the news of Duong Van Minh's surrender, the An Giang provincial government was in chaos. At 4 p.m. on May 1, 1975, after destroying the enemy's defense lines on the inter-provincial road, the 101st Regiment of the Liberation Army attacked the town. The uprising forces of the masses poured out onto the streets to demonstrate their strength. The M113 convoy of the 101st Regiment entered the town center, destroying the enemy's defense lines. In Ben Tre, on the afternoon of April 30, 1975, in the towns of Mo Cay, Ba Tri, Giong Trom, Binh Dai, Thanh Phu, Chau Thanh, Cho Lach and large rural areas, armed forces and large numbers of people simultaneously rushed into sub-regions, offices, and police stations to call on soldiers to surrender.

On the night of April 30, 1975, from the northwest of Ben Tre town, our special forces attacked Tan Thanh airport. At 9:30 p.m. on April 30, 1975, the enemy commander at Tan Thanh airport surrendered to the revolution.

At 8:00 a.m. on May 1, 1975, our armed forces from all directions entered and occupied the Governor's Palace, the Kien Hoa Provincial Administration Building, and took over the enemy's administrative area and military agencies. At noon on May 1, 1975, Ben Tre town was liberated, and in the evening of May 1, 1975, the entire province was completely liberated.

In Chau Doc town, after the news that Saigon had been liberated, the enemy soldiers in Chau Doc town disbanded. The provincial governor fled. Revolutionary cadres and bases occupied the Information Office, using loudspeakers to call on soldiers to stay in place, keep the warehouses and assets and hand them over to the revolution. Revolutionary representatives used loudspeakers to call on militia to stand with the revolution, maintain order and security in each neighborhood.

At 7:00 a.m. on May 1, 1975, two provincial battalions and a part of Regiment 101 entered Chau Doc town, disarming the remaining enemy units. Chau Doc town was liberated at 8:30 a.m. on May 1, 1975.

In Ca Mau, after the attacks of the revolutionary armed forces destroyed the Hoa Thanh sub-region, opened the western gate of the town, surrounded the Lo Te and Tan Thanh sub-regions, Ao Kho station, and attacked the town, by noon on April 30, 1975, the enemy's protective belt was completely paralyzed.

On the night of April 30, 1975, the enemy Governor used a helicopter to escape. At 6:00 a.m. on May 1, 1975, the revolutionary armed forces advanced, coordinated with tens of thousands of uprising people, and completely controlled the town. Ca Mau Province was liberated on the morning of May 1, 1975.

Under the talented and wise leadership of the Party Central Committee's Politburo, the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense, the 1975 Spring General Offensive and Uprising, culminating in Ho Chi Minh Campaign history, won a great victory, completely liberated the South, reunified the country.

Our entire Party, army and people have successfully carried out President Ho Chi Minh's sacred testament before his passing: "No matter how difficult or arduous, our people will definitely achieve complete victory. The American imperialists must leave our country. Our Fatherland will definitely be unified. Our compatriots in the North and the South will definitely be reunited under one roof."

Assessing the Great Victory of Spring 1975, the political report of the Party Central Committee at the 4th National Congress (December 1976) affirmed: "Times will pass, but the victory of our people in the resistance war against the US to save the country will forever be recorded in our national history as one of the most brilliant pages, a shining symbol of the complete victory of revolutionary heroism and human intelligence, and will go down in world history as a great feat of the 20th century, an event of great international importance and profound epochal significance".
