From strategic hotspot to liberation day

La Gi is the southernmost region of the Central region. During the resistance war against the US to save the country, this was one of the key positions of the military strategic area between the two regions of the Southeast and the provinces of Zone V. It was the gateway to Saigon and the center of Binh Tuy province - where the headquarters of the US-puppet government was concentrated. During the implementation of anti-revolutionary strategies, the US-puppet government placed Binh Tuy in general and La Gi in particular as pilot areas. Therefore, the army and people of La Gi always had to face the enemy's fierce terror and destruction. However, under the leadership of the Party, the people of La Gi promoted the tradition of patriotism, the tradition of revolution, the tradition of "self-reliance, heroic fighting, glorious victory" and together with the people of the province and the whole country, they constantly fought, defeated the enemy's plots, gradually won victory, and advanced to completely liberate the homeland. After the 1973 Paris Agreement, implementing the Party's strategic guidelines and the tasks determined by the Binh Tuy Provincial Party Committee, the army and people of La Gi continuously consolidated their revolutionary strength, expanded armed activities, promoted mass political struggles, forcing the enemy into a passive and reclusive position, contributing, together with the army and people in the province and the whole country, to create a new position and strength, preparing for the 1975 Spring General Offensive.

Joining the offensive spirit of the army and people of the whole country, in the days of April 1975, with the motto: Commune liberates commune, district liberates district, advances to completely liberate the homeland, the army and people of La Gi were coordinated and supported by the forces of the province and the Central Government with the highest will and determination to rise up to completely liberate the homeland and unify the country. On April 17 and 18, 1975, local troops and armed working teams liberated a fairly large area from kilometer 26 to 63 connecting Phan Thiet - La Gi. On April 19, Phan Thiet was liberated, creating new momentum and strength for the offensive and uprising in Binh Tuy. In the early morning of April 23, 1975, we completely controlled the headquarters of the puppet government and officially liberated the entire Binh Tuy province.

That victory not only had military and political significance, but also affirmed the strength of the people's hearts. It was the result of silent sacrifice, of the will to overcome all losses, in exchange for a day when the homeland was free of enemies.

Firmly step on the new journey

After the war ended, La Gi faced a new challenge: healing the wounds of war, stabilizing people's lives and rebuilding their homeland. In the first years after liberation, despite many difficulties, the will to be self-reliant of the La Gi people never faded. The Party, government and people set out to build the government, develop production, restore the education and health systems, and gradually bring the locality up from hardship.

Chairman of La Gi Town People's Committee Pham Trong Nhan shared: With a period of half a century, since the liberation of the homeland (April 23, 1975) and the reunification of the country (April 30, 1975), La Gi has joined the whole country with a jubilant spirit in the cause of construction and development (1975 - 2025). In particular, since La Gi town was separated from Ham Tan district and established La Gi town according to Decree No. 114 dated September 5, 2005 of the Government, 20 years have passed. In that journey, La Gi is both proud of its mission of construction and development, and faces many challenges such as limited socio-economic infrastructure, uneven resources, and unexploited sea - land - labor potential.

Over the past 20 years, La Gi town has made constant efforts to rise strongly, striving to not only be worthy of being a Trade - Service - Tourism urban area in the south of the province but also a key economic area of ​​the Southeast region. Under the leadership of the town Party Committee and the contributions and enthusiasm of the people, a new and vibrant appearance of the locality has been gradually created. Thanks to that, in 2024, La Gi town achieved a number of outstanding targets, specifically, the total budget revenue was 407,224 billion VND, reaching 213.2% of the assigned estimate, the highest ever of the town, contributing to supplementing public investment resources, in which the town's public investment capital was higher than the province's capital, gradually completing infrastructure, urban embellishment and leading private investment. Industrial production value was 1,831 billion VND, reaching 105.16%; Export turnover of 189,319 billion VND, reaching 124.07%...

The 20th anniversary of the establishment of La Gi town (September 5, 2005 - September 5, 2025) is also an impressive milestone on the journey after 50 years of the liberation of the South, the liberation of La Gi homeland, opening a new page of history, peace and development.
