Mr. Tu Tat's heart

For over 20 years, Mr. Vo Van Tat (Mr. Tu Tat - 86 years old, residing in Hamlet 2A, Bay Ngan Town, Chau Thanh A District, Hau Giang Province) has maintained the practice of giving free rice to the poor, donating land to build roads and bridges for people to travel conveniently.

Born and raised in Chau Thanh A, Mr. Tat is loved by many people for his simple, gentle nature, diligence in farming and his spirit of dedication to the community. More than 20 years ago, when he saw that the locality still had many families in very difficult circumstances, mainly working as hired laborers, selling lottery tickets or being too old to work, Mr. Tat decided to organize free rice distribution to share with the people. This activity has been maintained since then and Mr. Tat is affectionately called "charity uncle Tu" by the people here.

A few years ago, when he saw that people in the village had difficulty traveling due to muddy roads and old bridges, Mr. Tat took the initiative to donate land to widen the road and build bridges to make it easier for people to travel. “Before, this place was a small, flooded road, making it difficult to travel and trading was limited. Understanding the feelings of the people, I organized and donated my family's land, mobilizing people to join in opening the road, and my family supported the cost of building the road,” Mr. Tat said.

Thanks to the solidarity of the people, the rural road is more than 3m wide, straight and more than 1km long in the village gradually took shape. In addition to this road, Mr. Tat also used his personal money to support the construction of 2 bridges. Many people say that Mr. Tu Tat is kind, but some people think that now that "the land is sold for billions", why doesn't he sell it to take care of his old age... Mr. Tu just smiled gently: "The billions will be spent, but as long as humanity and virtue remain, we will always have them. This merit will last for our children and grandchildren...".

In recent years, despite his old age, Mr. Tu Tat has still been diligently sharing food and clothing with the poor by organizing free rice distribution and supporting charity kitchens in Bay Ngan town. On average, each year, Mr. Tat organizes the distribution of 6-7 tons of rice to people, and also gives necessities and money to those who suddenly fall ill and cannot afford treatment. Ms. Le Thi Dung in Hamlet 2A, Bay Ngan town, said: "Each person who comes to receive more than 10kg of rice and necessities can use for about 1 month. Thanks to that, I have a little extra money to pay for medicine every month."

Every month, when his children give him money, Mr. Tu Tat discusses with his wife how to use a portion to buy rice and necessities to give to the poor and support the charity kitchen in Bay Ngan town. Mr. Tat and his wife also go directly to the kitchen to help, making delicious meals for disadvantaged workers, patients and lonely elderly people. “I have 11 children, each of whom gives 1-5 million VND/month. My wife and I are vegetarians, so we don’t need to spend much, so we save the money our children give us for charity. I am very happy because my children always support us wholeheartedly,” said Mr. Tat.
