On December 9, in New York, the United States, the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations coordinated with the Office of the Military Attaché of Vietnam to the United Nations to solemnly organize the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22, 1944 - December 22, 2024) and the 35th anniversary of the National Defense Day (December 22, 1989 - December 22, 2024) under the chairmanship of Ambassador, Head of the Delegation Dang Hoang Giang.
Attending the ceremony were UN Deputy Secretary-General Atul Khare, UN Assistant Secretary-General Marth Pobee, and nearly 200 guests including many Ambassadors, Heads of Delegations and Military Advisors of member countries.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang emphasized the birth and development of the Propaganda Liberation Army, later the Vietnam People's Army, associated with the heroic history of modern Vietnam, inheriting the thousands of years of tradition of fighting foreign invaders, with strength originating from the spirit of great solidarity and indomitable will of the nation.
Over the past eight decades, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the trust of the people and the support and assistance of international friends, the Vietnam People's Army has grown steadily, winning many glorious victories, including the Dien Bien Phu victory in 1954 and the Ho Chi Minh Campaign in 1975, bringing the country to complete independence and unification, helping to overthrow the brutal genocidal regime, and making practical contributions to peace, stability and humanitarian efforts in the region.
On this occasion, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang affirmed that Vietnam persists in its "four no's" defense policy, along with its independent and self-reliant foreign policy, proactively integrating into the international community, participating in many bilateral and multilateral defense cooperation mechanisms, contributing to strengthening strategic trust and contributing to peace, security and development in the world.
Vietnam is proud to have actively participated in the United Nations' peacekeeping activities. Over the past 10 years, it has sent more than 800 officers and soldiers to perform peacekeeping duties at many United Nations Missions and headquarters, with a high proportion of women, leaving many good impressions and feelings about the image of the country, people and armed forces of Vietnam, which has been highly appreciated by the world's largest multilateral organization and international friends.

Speaking as an honored guest, representing the United Nations leadership, Deputy Secretary-General Atul Khare warmly congratulated the glorious achievements of the Vietnam People's Army over the past 80 years, making an important contribution to the cause of construction, protection and development of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
The Deputy Secretary-General affirmed that peacekeeping is an important pillar in the partnership between the United Nations and Vietnam, emphasizing the outstanding contributions of units and individuals performing peacekeeping duties in Vietnam, especially level 2 field hospitals and engineering teams at a number of Missions in Africa.

On this occasion, the representative of the United Nations Leaders expressed gratitude to the soldiers of the Vietnam People's Army who died for the cause of national liberation as well as for international peace and security, including Lieutenant Colonel - martyr Do Anh who died while performing peacekeeping duties at the Central African Republic Mission.
