However, developers will still have to pay a “core technology fee” of 0.5 euros per user account per year, under Apple’s new EU-specific rules.
“From the beginning, Apple made it clear that they did not like the idea of DMA compliance. So they came up with an alternative solution…”, the streaming music giant said Friday.
Spotify said it would have to pay a 17% commission if it remained in the App Store and offered its own in-app payments service under the new terms.
“Any developer can choose to keep the current terms,” Apple said in a statement. “And under the new terms, more than 99% of developers will pay the same or less to Apple.”
Apple faces strong action if changes to its App Store fail to meet upcoming regulations, the bloc's industry leader said in an interview Friday.
