SHB (formerly Nhon Ai Rural Bank) was established on November 13, 1993 in Can Tho with initial charter capital of 400 million VND and total assets of 1 billion VND.

The Party and the State have awarded SHB the Second Class Labor Medal (twice), the Third Class Labor Medal and many other noble awards to collectives and individuals at SHB; prestigious domestic and international organizations have highly appreciated and honored SHB with many awards. The Chairman of the Board of Directors of SHB was personally awarded the First Class Labor Medal by the President.
Continuing to recognize SHB's important contributions to socio-economic development and outstanding achievements in social security in the period of 2018 - 2022, the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam awarded SHB the Third Class Labor Medal. At the 30th Anniversary Ceremony, on behalf of the Party and the State, Mr. Tran Sy Thanh - Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee pinned the Third Class Labor Medal on SHB's traditional flag.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam Pham Thanh Ha commended and congratulated the outstanding achievements that generations of SHB staff have achieved during the 30-year development journey.
