Domestic violence is a problem that causes many consequences and impacts many people in society, especially victims of domestic violence will be physically and mentally injured. In recent years, the National Assembly has issued laws such as: Law on Marriage and Family, Law on Prevention of Domestic Violence, Law on Children, Law on Gender Equality... These legal documents have created many positive changes in social life in preventing and combating domestic violence.

Create a safe foothold

In order to strengthen the work of preventing and combating domestic violence, protecting the legitimate rights of women and children, many models such as: Community trusted addresses; shelters; prevention of gender-based violence; women helping each other develop the economy... have been established, put into operation and have initially shown effectiveness.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyet - Chairwoman of the Women's Union of Yen Lang Commune, Thanh Son District shared: The commune's "Trusted Address" model was established with 11 members who are all reputable people with the ability to mobilize, share, and persuade. Through propaganda and mediation work, many cases of family conflicts have been resolved satisfactorily. Families have become aware of right and wrong, and at the same time changed their attitudes and behaviors, joining hands to build happiness together.

The “Shelter” model of the Women’s Union of Phuc Khanh Commune, Yen Lap District was built from the local budget, fully equipped with essential items, ensuring the daily life of victims of domestic violence when they come to shelter. Thanks to good propaganda and reconciliation work, with a commitment from the abuser, all incidents were resolved immediately.

Domestic violence is always a “sensitive” topic for women. Fear, shame, or the mentality of “shame on the man, shame on the woman”... are mainly endured by women. Therefore, building models of activities in the work of preventing domestic violence aims to help women receive medical care, minimize the consequences of domestic violence, share their feelings, and receive legal advice to know how to protect themselves from domestic violence.

To date, the province has 273 models for preventing and combating domestic violence; 841 sustainable family development clubs (domestic violence prevention clubs); 1,053 groups for preventing and combating domestic violence; 1,635 trusted addresses in the community; and 792 hotline numbers.

Club models on family and domestic violence prevention and control have been built, maintained and increasingly replicated in residential areas, attracting a large number of people to participate, contributing to raising awareness of domestic violence prevention and control, denouncing acts of domestic violence, gradually reducing, repelling and preventing domestic violence, maintaining social order and stability, affirming the important role of the family in the community and society.

In addition, many models and activities of consulting and supporting gender equality; models of preventing gender-based violence; models of women helping each other to develop the economy, promoting the implementation of the campaign built by women's unions at all levels to promote the role of women in building prosperous, equal, progressive and happy families. At the same time, the Women's Union at all levels has coordinated with functional sectors to organize training courses, vocational training for members and women; increase support for capital, knowledge, plant and animal varieties; support the establishment of cooperatives, economic development models, contributing to helping women boldly change their thinking, ways of doing things, confidently pursue their passions, and become masters of the family economy.

Promote communication to change awareness

As the standing agency of the Steering Committee for Family Work, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has done a good job of advising, coordinating, guiding and directing the implementation of family work in the whole province. Localities have developed plans and implemented activities to celebrate days such as: International Day of Happiness March 20; Vietnamese Family Day June 28; National Action Month to Prevent and Combat Domestic Violence; Action Month for Gender Equality and Prevention and Response to Gender-Based Violence in conjunction with local socio-economic development plans.

The work of disseminating, popularizing and educating the law on family; preventing and combating domestic violence is regularly carried out from the province to the grassroots level in association with the Movement "All people unite to build a cultural life"; Campaign "All people unite to build new rural areas, civilized urban areas"... Specifically, in 2024, the provincial art troupe organized 32 performances to serve the people with songs, short plays, and comedy plays on family themes, attracting 12,700 viewers; the Cultural - Cinema Center organized 33 propaganda sessions with breadth and depth in districts and towns; mobile film screening teams conducted 140 mobile film screenings, serving about 28,040 viewers in mountainous districts.

The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has also closely coordinated with relevant departments and units to organize training and capacity building for legal reporters and propagandists. Review, revise and edit the contents of professional guidance on mediation at the grassroots level to serve the development of training materials and professional guidance for the team of mediators at the grassroots level. Compile and distribute books and leaflets with many propaganda contents on the Law on Prevention and Control of Domestic Violence; legal regulations on gender equality, social insurance; documents on criteria for family conduct, building a culture of family conduct, preventing and combating modern domestic violence...

Implement the integration of ethics and law topics, the Law on Domestic Violence Prevention and Control into school subjects to provide students with knowledge about policies and laws on domestic violence prevention and control, gender equality, rights and obligations of family members, good traditions of Vietnamese people and families, the harmful effects of domestic violence, measures, models, and experiences in preventing and controlling domestic violence, knowledge about marriage and family; behavioral skills, building a cultural family and other contents related to preventing and controlling domestic violence.

Mr. Nguyen Viet Trung - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism emphasized: In order for the work of preventing and combating domestic violence to be increasingly effective, it is necessary to continue to improve the quality of the models and replicate them throughout the province; promote the dissemination of the Law on Prevention and Combating Domestic Violence and related legal documents through the media; focus on promoting good examples and good deeds in the family; integrate the program of preventing and combating domestic violence and gender equality into the program and plan for socio-economic development; promote the movement "All people unite to build a cultural life"..., actively contributing to the goal of building a prosperous and progressive family, promoting sustainable socio-economic development.
