Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online on the morning of October 23, Mr. Hoang Anh Tuan confirmed: "I have submitted my resignation from Dong A University (Da Nang). From September 2024, I have stopped being the vice principal of the school."
"The school did not agree because the vice principal cannot work online."
According to Mr. Mai Hoang Hai - Deputy Head of Administration and Human Resources Department of Dong A University, Mr. Hoang Anh Tuan has a 3-year contract with the school (from September 2023 to September 2026).
"After a year, the school organized a performance evaluation and there were many things that Mr. Tuan had not completed. Before that, Mr. Hoang Anh Tuan had suggested that he work online, but the school did not agree because as a vice principal, he could not work online. If he wanted to work online, he would have to be a lecturer.
After evaluating the work results, according to the departments and offices in charge, the work he was assigned to had many unfinished results.
The administrative and personnel department proposed and the school board agreed to transfer Mr. Tuan to a lecturer position and decided to resign from the position of vice principal on August 30," said Mr. Hai.
According to Mr. Hai, after reviewing Mr. Tuan's application to become a lecturer, with the reason that he had to teach abroad 7 times a year (from September 2024 to September 2025), the HR department found it inappropriate because Mr. Tuan often asked to go without reporting specifically.
Therefore, the school's human resources department advised the school to terminate the contract with Mr. Tuan from October 9.
Apply for online work because I have to teach abroad and my mother is sick.
Meanwhile, Mr. Hoang Anh Tuan said that he had recently signed the minutes to terminate his labor contract, but had not yet received the school's decision.
"I have previously applied for an online job. There are two reasons for me to apply for an online job. First, I have a teaching schedule abroad in the next school year, and second, my mother is very sick.
Since there are only two of us at home, I cannot go to school to work directly. Therefore, I asked the school to work online, but the school leadership did not agree.
At first, I asked to resign from the management position in early September 2024. Then the school offered to transfer to a teaching position, if so, I would have to go back to school to teach.
Considering that traveling like that would be very costly and not being able to be proactive in work and taking care of my mother who is in Ho Chi Minh City, I told the school's human resources department that I would terminate my labor contract at the end of September 2024," said Mr. Tuan.
In his application to resign from his management position to become a lecturer from September 5, sent to Dong A University, Mr. Tuan said that in the 2024-2025 school year, he plans to teach in nearly 10 countries (from September 2024 to May 2025).
"I was appointed by Korea University (South Korea) as an adjunct professor for 2 years (June 2024 to June 2026). During that time, I will regularly go to Korea to teach according to the school's schedule there," said Mr. Tuan.
Regarding the school's assessment of my work performance as not being effective according to the contract, Mr. Tuan said: "I completely disagree with the assessment that I did not complete the school's KPI set out in the contract. This comment is completely inaccurate.
Some tasks assigned by the school for 2 years, now only 1 year has passed, I cannot complete them. For example, some topics are still in progress, they will not be completed until next year, some topics will take up to 2 years.
I also participated in a scientific conference as required by the school in July 2024, but the conference papers were not published until February 2025."
Mr. Hoang Anh Tuan had 3 articles removed from the magazine he used to be co-editor-in-chief.
Fuel magazine, a division of Elsevier, has just removed three articles by Mr. Hoang Anh Tuan and a group of more than 20 Vietnamese and foreign authors. The articles were published between March and May 2022.
It is worth mentioning that Mr. Hoang Anh Tuan used to be the co-editor-in-chief of Fuel . Now this magazine has removed his article.
According to the publisher, the three articles were removed due to violations of the journal's policies on authorship and conflicts of interest.
All three articles had changes in the author list during the manuscript editing process (some authors were removed from the articles and replaced by new authors) without notifying the journal and therefore were not accepted by the journal.
Two of the three articles had conflicts of interest, as the editor, reviewers, and several authors were related and co-authors on several other articles around the time the retracted articles were submitted to Fuel .
The authors responded to Fuel ’s request for clarification, but their clarifications were not satisfactory. The journal no longer believes in the value, integrity, or results presented in the articles, and has decided to retract the articles despite the authors’ disagreement with the decision.

Talking to Tuoi Tre Online about this, Mr. Tuan said: "The publishing house is not working transparently. I have sent letters many times pointing out the publisher's non-transparent actions since May 2024 but they have not responded. The publishing house itself has committed many violations but has hidden those violations. Meanwhile, I have done nothing wrong."
Mr. Tuan also affirmed: "What we did was just change the authors, because in fact those authors contributed, so we put their names in. While the publisher has no regulations on this.
Although there is a general policy, the editor-in-chief's comments do not say that it is not allowed to change authors like other magazines in the same system.
If I had violated the publisher's policy, the article would have been rejected, and now publishing it and then going back to say that adding the author's name is a violation. Most of the authors I added are in Vietnam, working at the schools I used to work at.
If my article is of poor quality or has been bought and sold or has fake data, it is unacceptable. This is a technical error due to poor management by the publisher, not our fault."
Meanwhile, one scholar said that what is important is still evidence of the authors' contributions to the article. If the authors do not provide sufficient evidence and the explanation is not satisfactory, the journal has the right to withdraw the article.
When the reporter asked for evidence of the exchange between the group of authors and the publisher, as well as evidence of the authors' contributions to the three removed articles, Mr. Tuan said he would provide it later.
