Necessity is the mother of invention
Mr. Vo Van Khoa (residing in Hoa Son commune, Hoa Vang district) has been attached to rice and lotus since he was a child, but the place where he lives is often flooded, so the fields have low economic efficiency.

After much thought, realizing the advantage of the large land, he decided not to grow rice and lotus anymore but to dig a pond to raise fish. Thinking and doing, he invested hundreds of millions of dong to raise basa fish, birds, and hybrid catfish.
When he first started his career, lacking experience in aquaculture, the first batch of fish he raised grew slowly and then died en masse, leading to losses.
Not discouraged, he traveled to large farms to learn about freshwater fish farming, and searched for information in books and newspapers to understand the habits of the fish species he intended to raise.
After a period of learning, he decided to renovate the pond, clean the water environment and the pond banks, and release the second batch of fish. This batch, thanks to proper care, produced high yields.

However, he encountered more difficulties such as unstable output, low market price, and low income. At this time, he thought about opening a recreational fishing service, creating a playground for anglers as well as creating more output for fish.
He expanded many ponds on an area of 2 hectares, raising more carp, tilapia, and red tilapia. He also planted many coconut trees along the paths around the pond to create a lively landscape, a new photo spot to attract tourists.
In addition, Mr. Khoa also arranged stone benches and built thatched huts for guests to rest. He built a restaurant and a kitchen to prepare and serve country cuisine to meet the needs of tourists.
Mr. Khoa also revealed that every two weeks, he releases more fish into the pond because he is afraid that fishermen will "lose their fish". Therefore, he is always a business partner of many fishermen in and outside of Da Nang.
Profit of hundreds of millions of dong
According to Mr. Khoa, to keep the fish healthy and the surroundings clean, he always cleans the pond and changes the water regularly to create oxygen for the fish and avoid bad odors.
The fish food source is cooked junk food to avoid water pollution and help the fish eat faster. At the same time, he also adds flour to help the fish grow quickly and healthily.

According to Mr. Khoa, raising angler fish is much harder than raising fish for food, but in return, it brings higher economic value. If raising commercial fish, after about 6 months, they can be sold, while the pond raising angler fish will continue to be raised to serve fishing tourists.
The price for fishing service is 50,000 VND/person (no fish), 250,000 VND/person (fish can be taken). Tourists can buy the fish they catch according to their needs at the price of 25,000-65,000 VND/kg, depending on the type.
On average, each year, the fish farming model combined with recreational fishing services brings Mr. Khoa’s family hundreds of millions of dong in profit. In addition, he also creates jobs for about 7 workers, with stable salaries.
Not only raising fish, he also boldly expanded the garden - pond - cage economic model. On the pond bank, he planted various fruit trees to serve tourists.

Recently, he also learned how to raise calcium worms to feed chickens. Mr. Khoa said that these are the larvae of black soldier flies. The method of raising them is quite simple, using styrofoam boxes, or buckets, basins, or plastic barrels to make shelter for the worms. The worms' food is green vegetable waste.
In addition to fish and calcium worms, taking advantage of the surrounding fields with abundant grass, he also invested in raising a herd of 19 cows, worth hundreds of millions of dong. Thanks to applying proper care techniques, the herd of cows has grown healthily.
