TPO – Interdisciplinary History – Archaeology – Ethnology with 5 candidates, of which, Associate Professor, Dr. Ngo Thi Phuong Lan – Principal of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH), VNU-HCM is the only candidate for the title of Professor.
According to the list of candidates proposed for recognition as meeting the standards for the title of professor and associate professor (GS, PGS) announced by the GS Council in 2024, there are many fields and interdisciplinary fields with only 1 candidate for the title of GS.
Specifically, in the interdisciplinary field of History - Archaeology - Ethnology, there are 5 candidates (this is the interdisciplinary field with the fewest candidates for the title of Professor, Associate Professor - PV) but there is only 1 candidate for the title of Professor, that is Ms. Ngo Thi Phuong Lan - Principal of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNU-HCM) majoring in Ethnology.

Ms. Ngo Thi Phuong Lan (born in 1974), from Tan An commune, Can Duoc district, Long An province, graduated from university with a degree in Oriental Studies, majoring in Southeast Asian Studies from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City in 1997.
In 2002, Ms. Lan graduated with a master's degree in anthropology, majoring in socio-cultural anthropology from the University of Toronto, Canada. Ten years later, she was awarded a doctorate in history, majoring in ethnology, from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City. In 2018, Ms. Lan was recognized as meeting the standards for the title of Associate Professor, majoring in Ethnology.
Ms. Lan has held positions ranging from teaching assistant to lecturer, vice dean and then vice principal of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City. Since 2018, at the age of 44, Ms. Ngo Thi Phuong Lan has been appointed as the principal of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City and will be reappointed to this position in 2023.
Ms. Lan has completed many scientific research topics, has guided 2 PhD students to successfully defend their theses, 19 master students, completed 9 scientific research topics from Ho Chi Minh City National University, school level, and ministry level. She has also published 53 scientific articles, including 5 articles in prestigious international journals. In addition, Ms. Lan has 13 published books.
The research direction of the principal of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City is Anthropology, Economic Ethnology; Ethnic Livelihoods – Ecological and Environmental Anthropology; Agricultural and Rural Tourism; Development Anthropology. The female principal has received many awards from the State, ministries and international organizations.
Besides Ms. Ngo Thi Phuong Lan, the only candidate for Professor of the Interdisciplinary History - Archaeology - Ethnology, many other disciplines/interdisciplinary fields in the position of Professor also have only 1 candidate.
For example, in the Metallurgy industry, Mr. Doan Dinh Phuong is currently working at the Institute of Materials Science, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.
The Department of Psychology has Mr. Le Quang Son, who is currently the Deputy Director in charge of Science and Technology, International Cooperation and Education Quality Assurance at Danang University.
The Irrigation Department has Mr. Pham Quy Nhan, who is currently a senior lecturer, working at the Hanoi University of Natural Resources and Environment.
In the field of Mechanics, Mr. Truong Tich Thien is a senior lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Applied Science, University of Technology (VNU-HCM).
The Pharmacy Department has Mr. Tran Viet Hung - Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Drug Testing Institute, also a lecturer and Deputy Head of the Pharmacy Department of Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine.
In the transport sector, Mr. Bui Tien Thanh is a lecturer and Head of the Department of Construction at the University of Transport.
The Faculty of Educational Sciences has Mr. Cao Cu Giac as a lecturer and Deputy Head of the Chemistry Department of Vinh University (Nghe An).
The Faculty of Law has Mr. Nguyen Quoc Suu, who is a senior lecturer and Deputy Director of the National Academy of Public Administration.
According to the State Council of Professors, this year there are 673 candidates for recognition of the title of Professor and Associate Professor. Among them, the youngest candidate for Professor is Mr. Tran Quoc Trung (38 years old), Foreign Trade University in Ho Chi Minh City and the youngest candidate for Associate Professor is Mr. Do Quang Loc (32 years old), University of Natural Sciences (VNU-HCM).
From August 31 to September 27, the Councils of Professors of the industry and interdisciplinary sectors will consider and recognize the standards for the above titles. From October 21 to October 3, the State Council of Professors will meet to consider and recognize the standards for the titles of Professor and Associate Professor in 2024.
