Since the beginning of the year, people in Ngoc Hien district have grown more than 373 hectares of vegetables, reaching 37.3% of the plan, up 5.4% over the same period. To serve tourist attractions, markets and local people. People mainly grow cabbage, cucumber, long beans, okra, bitter melon, squash, pumpkin...

Ms. Tran Thi Minh, Rach Tho Hamlet, Dat Mui Commune, has been growing vegetables on the vacant land around her house for more than 5 years. With about 1,000 m2, Ms. Minh grows vegetables intercropped all year round, with a net system to grow mustard greens, Malabar spinach, vegetables, etc. Every day, Ms. Minh's family earns from 150,000 to 250,000 VND; after deducting expenses, the monthly profit is over 7 million VND. Because she understands the market demand, the output is always stable.

Ms. Tran Thi Minh shared: “This area has salty water all year round, but the land area is large, so I am determined to improve the land to grow vegetables and fruit trees. At first, I only planted in foam boxes to serve my family. After a period of planting, I saw that the vegetables grew well, so I expanded it. When the vegetables grew more and more, I brought them to the market to sell and wholesale to tourist attractions in the commune. This model is easy to implement, the most important thing is to be diligent in taking care of them, watering them in the hot season and stretching nets to block the sun, but in return, the vegetables this season grow quite well.”

Ms. Thieu Thi Thuy, Rach Tho Hamlet, Dat Mui Commune, chose to grow papaya, squash, and melon to serve tourist attractions and local people. Although these crops require a long time, with diligence, diligent care, application of science and technology in production, and understanding of market demand, Ms. Thuy has high profits every planting season. Ms. Thuy said: “I find this land suitable for growing fruit trees and fruit vines because the soil here has a lot of compost mixed in the soil. The land around my house is only 500 square meters, but I have been growing papaya and melon for more than 6 years now, every year it is effective, the price is high, and the people here love it, because it is grown without chemicals and the fruit is sweet and delicious.”

Ms. Nguyen Thi Diem Kieu, President of the Women's Union of Dat Mui Commune, said: "In the past time, the Union has actively encouraged women to participate in production, increase family income and replicate effective economic models. Thereby, many women have boldly applied models such as: fish farming, livestock farming, small trading... In particular, the model of growing vegetables and fruit trees has been implemented by many women. To support the output of vegetables, the Union introduced them to tourist destinations in the area to consume products. In the coming time, the Union will continue to mobilize women to replicate the model of growing vegetables and fruit trees; coordinate with specialized sectors to train them on how to grow to achieve higher productivity than before."

With the determination to diversify crops and livestock on the same area to develop the family economy, although Ngoc Hien district is a year-round salty land, thanks to hard work and the application of scientific and technical advances in production, the vegetable growing model has been widely deployed by the people, contributing to the economic development of the people in the area./.
