On January 10, the Ministry of Health said that in 2023, although the epidemic situation is still under control, many diseases will have a very high number of infections and deaths.

Of which, hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) recorded 180,983 cases, 2.7 times higher than the same period in 2022 and 31 deaths, 10.3 times higher than in 2022. The number of HFMD cases increased sharply in the southern provinces, of which Ho Chi Minh City had the highest number of cases. Other infectious diseases such as measles, monkeypox, rabies, diphtheria, etc. all increased quite high.

Specifically, rabies recorded 82 deaths nationwide, an increase of 12 cases compared to the same period in 2022; measles-like rash fever had 393 cases, an increase of 35 cases; diphtheria recorded 55 cases, 5 deaths; monkeypox had 121 cases, 6 deaths.

According to the Ministry of Health , over the past year, a shortage of expanded immunization vaccines occurred in many localities across the country, leading to many children missing their vaccination schedules and facing a high risk of contracting infectious diseases.

Therefore, in 2024, the Ministry of Health signed a contract to purchase 10 types of domestically produced vaccines and is distributing them to localities in January to ensure vaccination needs for children at all commune and ward health stations.
