On April 20, Mr. Bui Thai Hoang - Secretary of the Party Committee of Vinh Xuong commune (Tan Chau town, An Giang) said that after the collision between a tourist boat and a passenger ferry that injured 3 people, the locality requested the authorities to investigate and clarify the cause of the incident.
According to Mr. Hoang, through testing, both drivers had no alcohol concentration and tested negative for drugs.
“The male tour guide is being treated at Cho Ray Hospital, while the two foreign tourists are being treated at Viet Phap Hospital,” Mr. Hoang shared.
According to information from Tan Chau Town Police, initially, the authorities determined that the fault was due to Mr. Phan Thanh Duoc (42 years old, residing in Chau Phu district, An Giang), the driver of the tourist boat number AG-233xx, who did not reduce speed and did not keep a safe distance when reaching the inland waterway port area, leading to a collision with a passenger ferry.
Also this afternoon, Director of An Giang Trade and Investment Promotion Center Le Trung Hieu visited and encouraged international tourists who unfortunately encountered unfortunate incidents.
As reported, at around 5:25 p.m. on April 19, at Tien River (in Hamlet 1, Vinh Xuong Commune), passenger ferry number 99K AG-214xx driven by Mr. Vo Van Nhan (49 years old, residing in Phu Tan District, An Giang) was moving from Dong Thap to Vinh Xuong.
At this time, the ferry suddenly collided with a tourist boat driven by Mr. Duoc, carrying 42 passengers from the border to Tan Chau town.
The collision caused a 36-year-old tour guide from An Giang province to lose his right arm and break both legs. In addition, two German and French tourists suffered broken left legs.
Tan Chau town police also added that the collision caused severe damage to the tourist boat, with initial damage estimated at about 300 million VND, while the ferry was not significantly affected.
