Binh Dinh strives to develop

Going through the hardships after the war, the half-century journey of construction and development, Binh Dinh has expanded in scale, becoming a fairly large province in the region.

This is a solid premise for Binh Dinh to rise up in the new era of development.

Infrastructure investment, expanding development space

Recalling the difficult but passionate days in the reconstruction of his homeland, Mr. Nguyen Tan Hieu - former Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Secretary of the Quy Nhon City Party Committee, term IX, X, could not help but feel nostalgic: First, it is necessary to plan the city, taking the center of infrastructure development for socio-economic development. The focus of infrastructure development is to develop the urban transport network and the transport network connecting with the national transport network. The first thing Quy Nhon did was to build the transport routes from Phu Tai to the center, then from Quy Nhon to Phu Yen province by the Quy Nhon - Song Cau route and building Thi Nai bridge connecting the city with Phuong Mai peninsula is a historic step. "This project breaks the monopoly of the province, creating conditions for expanding the development space in the future", Mr. Nguyen Tan Hieu recalled with emotion.

The impression of Mr. Nguyen Duy Quy, former Acting Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, is that Binh Dinh, from an agricultural province heavily devastated by war, had no foundation for industry, and found it difficult to attract investment, but during the half-century journey of building the homeland, the province has achieved and exceeded the main targets of socio-economic development. In particular, investing in infrastructure, especially traffic infrastructure, has paved the way, Binh Dinh has expanded its development space with a series of traffic works on the coastal corridor, the western road of the province, the road connecting the inner-provincial and inter-regional regions...

Over the past 50 years, the province's socio-economic development has been continuous. In the past 10 years, the province's average economic growth rate has reached 7%/year; the scale of the economy has continuously expanded, from a poor province to now ranked 5th/14 localities in the North Central and Central Coast regions, and 25th/63 provinces and cities nationwide. The economic structure has shifted positively, tourism has developed strongly, gradually becoming the province's spearhead economic sector. Quy Nhon - Binh Dinh has become a famous tourist destination at home and abroad, twice in a row being honored as "ASEAN Clean Tourist City".

Courtney Gair, a Scottish tourist, first set foot in Quy Nhon - Binh Dinh in late March 2025, joining in the jubilant atmosphere of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation Day of Binh Dinh Province (March 31, 1975 - March 31, 2025) said: My friends also talked a lot about Quy Nhon, about Binh Dinh. However, when I arrived here, I found that my previous images were still not enough. In particular, Quy Nhon is a small city but extremely beautiful and friendly. Unfortunately, the short time I stayed here was not enough to explore everything, so I will continue to return to your Quy Nhon - Binh Dinh.

From hardship to the development of his hometown today, Mr. Le Phuoc Thoai (72 years old, in Van An village, My Chau commune, Phu My district) affirmed that it was a great change, clearly seeing the people benefiting and contributing their efforts and money. The countryside is now bright - green - clean - beautiful, clean water has also come to the people, the economy has developed, leading to a significant improvement in people's income and life.

Making Binh Dinh a center of science and technology

In the first months of 2025, along with the serious and drastic implementation of the revolution in streamlining the organization and apparatus of the political system according to the Party's policy, the socio-economic situation of the province continues to improve.

According to Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Pham Anh Tuan, the province is determined to focus on developing transport infrastructure and logistics as key factors in the strategy to promote economic growth. The province is currently implementing key projects, notably the 118 km North-South Expressway passing through Binh Dinh, expected to be completed in 2025, along with the upgrade of Phu Cat Airport. The Quy Nhon - Pleiku Expressway project is also urgently completing project procedures to submit to the National Assembly in May 2025 for early commencement this year. At the same time, special attention is paid to developing the seaport system, in which the Phu My Port project is undergoing procedures, with the capacity to receive ships of up to 150,000 tons; the Phu My Industrial Park project has completed the investment policy step, and is rushing to commence construction this year...

When talking about the development journey of the province, Central Party Committee member, Provincial Party Secretary Ho Quoc Dung also affirmed the "difference" when Binh Dinh has boldly created breakthroughs in socio-economic development, especially investing in essential infrastructure. If the opening of National Highway 1D to break the monopoly of Quy Nhon City and the construction of Thi Nai Bridge connecting the city with Phuong Mai peninsula is a historic step, then the formation of ICISE Center - the nucleus of Quy Hoa science and education urban area is considered a highlight of Binh Dinh compared to other localities in the country, a bold step more than 10 years ago.

In 2013, the International Center for Interdisciplinary Science and Education (ICISE) was inaugurated and put into operation, setting a goal of organizing 10-12 high-quality international scientific conferences each year, focusing on basic and applied science fields, especially in physics and expanding to other fields such as biology, medicine, social sciences and humanities. After more than 10 years of making its mark, Dr. Tran Thanh Son, Deputy Director of the ICISE Center, said that ICISE has coordinated with the Rencontres du Vietnam and Binh Dinh province to organize nearly 200 high-quality international scientific events, attracting more than 12,000 scientists from 40 countries and territories. Moreover, this is also the "nucleus" for the formation of the Quy Hoa Science and Education Urban Area - the first model in Vietnam.

From here, many technology giants such as TMA Solutions and FPT have spent millions of USD to develop infrastructure in Quy Hoa. Symbolic scientific works have been built, turning Binh Dinh into a bright spot in science and technology such as the Science Avenue, the Center for Scientific Discovery and Innovation, etc. Continuing to realize the goal of turning Binh Dinh into a center of science and technology, the Center for Artificial Intelligence and Auxiliary Urban Area invested by FPT Corporation, covering an area of over 93 hectares, with a total capital of VND 4,362 billion in Quy Nhon City, is gradually taking shape. "FPT is committed to accompanying Binh Dinh in the digital transformation process, sustainable socio-economic development. That is to continue investing in Binh Dinh in scientific research, core technology and innovation; education and training of high-quality human resources", affirmed Mr. Nguyen Van Khoa, General Director of FPT Corporation.

“Going ahead, taking the lead” in science and technology and innovation is an important strategy that Binh Dinh has chosen to invest in even before Resolution 57-NQ/TW was issued. Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Pham Anh Tuan said that in order to realize Resolution 57-NQ/TW, in February 2025, the Provincial Party Committee issued Action Program No. 32-CTr/TU, identifying the development of science and technology, innovation and digital transformation as the leading breakthrough and driving force in socio-economic development, with 3 main pillars: Digital economy and high-tech industry; digital infrastructure and smart cities; development of human resources for innovation. By 2045, Binh Dinh strives to become an important center of science and technology and artificial intelligence application in Vietnam, leading the country in innovation.

This goal was affirmed by Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia - Politburo member, Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission, as a breakthrough for Binh Dinh. "Building Binh Dinh into a "destination" for industries, science and technology enterprises, domestic and international scientists; Binh Dinh must be worthy and worthy of being a center of science and technology and innovation", Mr. Nghia emphasized.
