The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting predicts that rain, floods, flash floods, and landslides may occur in the near future, and the possibility of storms overlapping storms cannot be ruled out.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting predicts that from September 8-9, 2024, the circulation after storm No. 3 will cause heavy rain for the entire plains, midlands and mountainous areas of the North, with an average rainfall in 24 hours of up to 100-150mm, in some places over 200mm.

Speaking to reporters of VietnamPlus Online Newspaper at noon on September 8, Mr. Mai Van Khiem, Director of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, especially noted the high risk of flooding on rivers and streams and flash floods and landslides in some localities.

Specifically, small rivers in Quang Ninh, Lang Son, Cao Bang, Hoa Binh may see floods reaching alert levels 2 to 3. Floods on Ngoi Thia River (Yen Bai), Song Boi River (Hoa Binh), Hoang Long River (Ninh Binh) will rise above alert level 3; downstream of Luc Nam River will rise to alert level 2.

In addition, there is also a high risk of flooding in urban areas, cities and provinces in the Northern Delta due to heavy rain, especially in the provinces of Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Lang Son, Thai Nguyen, Cao Bang, Ha Giang, Yen Bai, Bac Kan, Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Ha Nam, and Hanoi.

Mr. Khiem also advised people to be on guard against some trees that may not have been completely broken off in the recent strong winds and could fall when impacted.

In addition, the director of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting emphasized that flash floods and landslides are very worrying, with rain in many places reaching around 200-300mm, so people need to pay attention to areas identified as high risk and temporarily not move through them.

“It will still rain in the coming days, so people should be careful when crossing rivers, streams, and spillways, and should limit or stop activities that require them to go into the forest,” Mr. Khiem warned.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh directed Party committees, authorities at all levels and relevant sectors to proactively and actively overcome the consequences of storm No. 3 according to their functions, tasks and authority.

In addition, a representative of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that in the coming time, it is not possible to rule out the possibility of storms overlapping storms and the center is still closely monitoring.

In addition, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting and forecasting units in provinces and centrally-run cities will continue to closely monitor the developments of rain and floods in the above-mentioned areas and provide detailed and timely information to the central and local disaster prevention agencies to have timely and effective direction, management and response measures.
