Speaking in Austin, the capital of Texas, the German Foreign Minister shared: “You cannot understand America if you only go to Washington DC. That is why I came to Texas - the second largest state in the US and very important to me, where there are many opportunities and challenges.”
Ms. Baerbock met with Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who has sparked controversy for his hardline stance against illegal immigration and opposition to abortion.
In addition, the two sides also discussed a number of issues with opposing views such as gun control and reproductive rights.
During the meeting, Foreign Minister Baerbock also emphasized that the parties need to focus on managing important technologies and exploiting green energy.
According to the schedule of the visit, the head of the German Foreign Ministry visited two companies operating in the field of green technology.
The official is expected to meet with other state leaders and meet with Houston Democratic Mayor Sylvester Turner.
