Mr. Nguyen Van Troi, 49 years old, residing in Hamlet 14, Khanh An Commune, U Minh District, is a typical example of that spirit. Mr. Troi himself is a victim of Agent Orange, his daughter, Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhu Y (24 years old) also suffers from the consequences that prevent her body from developing normally. Not discouraged by this, he and his wife still work hard. Currently, the family is raising 6 pigs, growing water spinach on rented land, more than 1 hectare, combined with raising freshwater fish. This model brings in an income of over 80 million VND per year, helping the family escape poverty from the beginning of 2023.
Mr. Troi confided: “Previously, my family’s circumstances were very difficult, we were a poor household in the hamlet. Thanks to the provincial Association of Agent Orange/Dioxin Victims supporting 50 million VND and savings, we were able to build a spacious house. After finishing the house, I applied to escape poverty and focus on increasing production. Growing water fern can be sold for 15-20 thousand VND/kg depending on wholesale and retail. Working hard every day, I can earn a few hundred thousand VND, totaling about 8-9 million VND/month, life is much less difficult than before.”

His youngest daughter, Ms. Le Hong Nhi, is 39 years old this year but has the intelligence of a 3-year-old child. Family life was extremely difficult, his wife rowed a boat for hire. In 2001, he decided to open a small sawmill, gradually rebuilding his life.
Mr. Than shared: “My family was in difficulty, so I could not give up. My husband and I borrowed money to invest in a sawmill. At first, it was small, mainly sawing eucalyptus and yellow cajuput.
