Le Hoang Nguyen, a former student of the specialized math class at Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted (Quang Tri province), received scholarships worth more than 1 million USD from 8 American universities. These universities include: Denison, Emory, Brandeis, Wisconsin-Madison, Union, Dickinson, Depauw, Furman.

After a period of consideration based on interests and future development opportunities, at the end of August 2023, Nguyen went to the US to study both applied mathematics and financial economics at Denison University, with a scholarship worth 200,000 USD/4 years, equivalent to nearly 5 billion VND.

"It wasn't until March 2022 that I had the intention to study abroad, while American universities had closed their applications before that. Initially, I only intended to apply to domestic schools. However, during the preparation process, I put together all the events, projects I had done, and achievements I had in the past, and then realized that I also had passions and interests, and studying abroad was the most suitable path," Nguyen said about his decision.

‏So after graduating from high school, Nguyen spent 1 year preparing his study abroad application, combined with instructing many Vietnamese students on how to take the IELTS English certificate. Up to now, Nguyen has guided nearly 120 students to conquer this certificate. Previously, in January 2022, Nguyen achieved IELTS 8.5 on his first test. "‏‏Every day, I spend 10 hours practicing foreign languages. I start the day with inspirational songs in English," Nguyen shared his IELTS test experience.

Nguyen remembers most the time he wrote a study abroad essay and gave IELTS instructions for 36 consecutive hours. "That time, my energy was so good, I couldn't sleep because so many ideas kept flowing," Nguyen excitedly said.

The essay for Nguyen's study abroad application revolved around his interests and plans. He replied: "In addition to being trained to become a person with strengths in science, I also like acting, participating in community activities and have a passion for finance."

Nguyen said that he really likes acting. "Acting came to me quite randomly. In 2017, I was one of four students from Quang Tri province selected to participate in the 5th National Children's Forum. That time, the students worked together to perform a play. I realized that when acting, I would have the opportunity to live a different life, to see the world through a new lens. And also from this event, I have connections with activities related to children, such as: organizing free education for orphans, performing a music night to raise funds for disadvantaged children in mountainous areas," Nguyen added.

Sharing about his future plans, Nguyen hopes that after graduation he will have the opportunity to work for financial investment funds or banks. Sharing his study abroad experience with other young people, Nguyen said: "I think you should have a clear direction, the sooner the better. But it's never too late, just start pursuing your passion when you are truly ready."

‏As a companion of Nguyen in the journey to conquer the scholarship, Nguyen Viet Khanh Linh, a student at Hanoi National University of Education, expressed: "Nguyen and I have been close friends since childhood, so we understand each other quite well, we both consider each other as family. He is very energetic, enthusiastic and responsible. When I heard that Nguyen received the scholarship, I was very happy and proud, that result is completely worthy of the efforts he put in. Nguyen is also the motivation for me to try and strive to improve myself". ‏
