Information has emerged on several international security forums and websites that CMC Corporation has become a victim of ransomware. The attack is believed to have been carried out by the Crypto24 group on April 12.
According to Hookphish, there are about 2 TB of data controlled, including token data, website data... The target domain name that was attacked is https://ca.cmc.vn/
A CMC representative said: "We have recorded a small-scale service in the technical system showing signs of being intentionally attacked by ransomware. Thanks to the timely activation of the incident response process according to regulations, the service disruption to customers occurred in a very short time. Currently, the attacked service is operating stably, without affecting customers."
CMC is also working with authorities to investigate the incident.

Ransomware is a general term for malicious software that encrypts victims' data and demands ransom. Vietnam has witnessed many ransomware incidents at organizations and businesses, notably the PVOIL, VietnamPost and VNDirect cases in early 2024.
According to experts, once data is encrypted, there is almost no technical solution to fix it. Therefore, businesses and organizations need to back up regularly, in case the system is attacked, they can use data stored elsewhere to restore, only losing the latest update cycle.
According to a report by the National Cyber Security Association, 46.15% of agencies and businesses said they had been attacked at least once in the past year, of which 6.77% were attacked frequently. According to the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention (A05) - Ministry of Public Security, there were more than 74,000 cyber attack warnings for key units alone, including 83 targeted APT attacks./.
