Vinh City flooded due to heavy rain

Heavy rain in Vinh City has caused many roads to be deeply flooded. Many motorbikes and cars have stalled while traveling on these roads. Since early morning, many schools have had to announce that students will be absent from school.

The Vinh City Traffic Police Department continuously updates information on heavily flooded roads on social media to warn people to avoid traveling through these areas. In many areas, water has flooded into people's houses, causing deep flooding and damaging furniture and property.

It is forecasted that on the day and night of September 23, in the areas from Ha Tinh and Quang Binh, there will be heavy to very heavy rain with common rainfall from 50 - 100 mm, some places over 150 mm. Nghe An and the area from Quang Tri to Thua Thien - Hue will have moderate rain, heavy rain and scattered thunderstorms, some places very heavy rain with common rainfall from 30 - 60 mm, some places over 100 mm.

During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind. From September 24, heavy rain in the Central region tends to decrease gradually.

Floods rise rapidly on rivers in Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh

The meteorological agency added that on September 22, the flood on the Hoang Long River (Ninh Binh) and the upper Ma River (Thanh Hoa) had peaked and was receding. The peak flood level on the Hoang Long River at Ben De at 4:00 a.m. this morning was 3.7 m, 0.20 m above alert level 2; on the Ma River at Hoi Xuan at 9:00 p.m. on September 23, it was 62.81 m, 0.81 m above alert level 2; at Cam Thuy, it was 20.30 m, 0.1 m above alert level 3.

Meanwhile, floods on the Buoi River, Chu River, downstream of the Ma River (Thanh Hoa), Ca River (Nghe An), and La River (Ha Tinh) are rising. At 7:00 a.m. this morning, the water level on the Buoi River at Kim Tan station was 11.38 m, 0.38 m above BĐ2; the Ma River at Cam Thuy was 20.26 m, 0.26 m above BĐ3; the downstream of the Ma River at Ly Nhan was 10.74 m, 0.26 m below BĐ2; the Chu River at Bai Thuong was 18.45 m, 0.45 m above BĐ3; the downstream of the Chu River at Xuan Khanh was 8.94 m, approximately at BĐ1.

In the next 6-12 hours, floods on the Buoi River, Chu River, downstream of the Ma River, Ca River, and La River will continue to rise, and the Hoang Long River will continue to slowly fall. By the evening of the same day, the water level of the Buoi River at Kim Tan will rise to 12 m (BĐ3); the Ma River at Ly Nhan will rise to 11 m (BĐ2), and at Giang will rise to 6 m (0.5 m above BĐ2).

Warning, floods on Chu, Ca and La rivers continue to rise. During this flood, the peak water level on Chu river is above level 1, the downstream of Ca river fluctuates at level 1, the downstream of La river is below level 1. Flooding continues in Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces; flooding in Ninh Binh gradually decreases. In addition, there is a high risk of flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas in Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces.
