According to information from the Quang Tri Fishing Port Management Board, recently, due to many different reasons, the channel into Cua Tung fishing port has been seriously silted up, especially the area in the middle of the port channel, leading to great difficulties for fishing boats to dock, especially boats over 15 m long and with large capacity, having to wait for the highest tide to enter and exit the port.

Since the beginning of the year, the number of fishing boats arriving and leaving Cua Tung fishing port has been only 13 times, all of which are local fishing boats. As for fishing boats from other provinces, there has been only one case, the fishing boat numbered BTh 99231 TS owned by Mr. Nguyen Truong Hoai in Tan Phuoc commune, La Gi district, Binh Thuan province, on January 22, while on the way to the Cua Tung storm shelter area to avoid the wind, it ran aground in the port entrance area. The entire fishing boat worth 1.6 billion VND was completely sunk and damaged.

Director of Quang Tri Fishing Port Management Board Le Van Son said that Cua Tung fishing port is a place serving the fishing and exploitation activities of fishermen in Cua Tung town (Vinh Linh district), Trung Giang commune (Gio Linh district), neighboring communes and fishermen from other provinces.

Currently, due to the shallow channel, fishing boats cannot enter the port, so they are forced to use small boats to unload their caught seafood products and bring them ashore.

This causes great difficulties in monitoring fishing vessels, collecting fishing logs, and monitoring exploited aquatic product output; affecting the implementation of the fight against illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (IUU).

The issuance of certificates for exploited aquatic products is also impossible, leading to disadvantages for businesses and fishermen, especially businesses exporting products such as squid, shrimp, mackerel, herring, etc.
