Mr. Can added that compared to rice production areas in Gia Vien district, Gia Lac has two land areas inside and outside the dike that are often affected by small floods, so the commune has proactively planned the crop earlier. Compared to previous years, the rice fields outside the dike this year still have one crop but the rice yield is still quite high.

"For many years, people in Gia Lac have developed the habit of growing clean rice, such as using organic fertilizers and not using pesticides or chemicals, so the products are very popular with customers. Even when the products are not enough to sell, when it's harvest time, traders bring their vehicles to the shore to wait, but it's still difficult to buy a lot of goods," Mr. Can added.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Trinh (63 years old) in Thang Loi village, Gia Lac commune said that her family and many local households are very excited because the spring rice crop is good and the price is good. "Compared to previous years, this year, the price of input materials is still quite high, but the rice crop is good and the price is good, so people are very happy. It turns out that each sao of fragrant rice has a yield of about 2 quintals, sold fresh in the field for about 8,000 VND/kg, the growers immediately make a profit of about 4,000 VND/kg without having to spend extra time bringing it home and drying it...", Ms. Trinh confided.

Rice is easy to sell, farmers make a profit

After about 15 days of harvesting, up to now, Thuong Hoa Cooperative is actively bringing machines to work the land, members of the unit also take turns going to the fields to supervise the work of collecting and destroying snails, rats... to prepare for planting the crop.

Mr. Le Hong Quan - Director of Thuong Hoa Cooperative, Gia Thanh Commune, Gia Vien District said: This year the weather is more favorable, so the production work of the people is also more favorable. The newly harvested spring rice also has a good yield, so the people are very happy.

"This spring crop, the cooperative planted about 100 hectares, hybrid rice and fragrant rice varieties all achieved high yields. The harvested rice dried quickly in the sun, so the price was also higher. Currently, households that still have rice to sell are still being purchased by traders at a price of about 11,000 VND to 12,000 VND/kg," Mr. Quan added.

Although he is old this year, his wife, Mr. Dinh Van Tuc, in Yen Thang commune, Yen Mo district, still maintains one hectare of fragrant rice field. "With machines serving the fields, some farmers do not have to go to the fields, so people are still enthusiastic about production and planting many fields. My family alone still plants one hectare of fragrant rice, the spring crop just harvested about 1.6 quintals/sao. Currently, many traders are asking to buy, offering a high price of about 11,000 VND/kg, which is quite a profit, but I do not want to sell yet," said Mr. Tuc.

Mr. Tuc added that compared to other regions, Yen Thang now has almost all kinds of modern machinery to serve farmers in rice production. From land preparation machines, transplanting machines, pesticide spraying machines, fertilizer spraying machines, harvesters...

"People just need to place an order, and the cooperative will bring the machines to serve them right at their place, so even households that are busy working for the company do not have to take time off to go to the fields like before. On harvest day, traders will bring their vehicles to the fields to buy and pay immediately. Households that grow rice for food will also have vehicles to take them home," Mr. Tuc affirmed.
