The iPhone 17 is expected to retain the same design without any changes to the bezels. However, in 2026 and 2027, Apple is ready to make bigger moves. Specifically, according to 9to5Mac , the Apple is said to be planning to move the Face ID components under the screen in 2026.
This is a major step toward eliminating the pill-shaped notch that makes up Dynamic Island, and it could also pave the way for an iPhone, potentially the iPhone 18 Pro, that reduces the notch to just a single spot for the front-facing camera.
Meanwhile, a new report from reporter Wayne Ma of The Information suggests that this camera notch may be located in a new location, the upper left corner of the screen.
Accordingly, the source revealed that the design of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max will only include a small notch in the upper left corner to accommodate the front camera. According to the source, this design is the precursor to at least one 2027 iPhone model that will place the front camera under the screen to bring a truly edge-to-edge screen.
9to5Mac notes that Apple could take a similar approach with the iPhone 18 Pro. By extending the Dynamic Island UI further to the left, Apple could visually integrate the off-center camera cutout while also expanding the display space for live activity indicators and other content.
However, placing the front camera in the top-left corner would mark a notable change from the current Dynamic Island layout, which is centrally located between large sections of the display.
