The visit is part of a regional tour through September 13 that includes stops in Singapore, Papua New Guinea and Timor-Leste.

Cardinal Ignatius Suharyo, President of the Papal Welcoming Committee, and Apostolic Nuncio to Indonesia Piero Pioppo welcomed the Pope in Jakarta.

The Pope's trip from Leonardo da Vinci International Airport (Rome) lasted more than 17 hours. Pope Francis shared with journalists: "I believe this is the longest trip I have ever made."

During his stay in Indonesia, the Pope will reside at the Vatican Embassy in Jakarta.

According to the schedule, Pope Francis will pay a courtesy call to Indonesian President Joko Widodo at the State Palace on September 4. Previously, at the end of August, President Joko Widodo said he planned to discuss with Pope Francis solutions to current conflicts such as those in Gaza or Ukraine.

On September 5, Pope Francis will celebrate Mass at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, with about 86,000 Catholics in attendance.

In addition to the Mass, the Pope will attend a number of important events, including meeting the head of the Istiqlal Mosque and visiting the Katedral Church.

Pope Francis will also meet with interfaith leaders to promote religious tolerance during the visit.

The Southeast Asian country has also deployed nearly 4,000 personnel from the Indonesian Army (TNI), National Police (Polri), the Pope's security team, the National Cyber Security and Cryptography Agency (BSSN), and the National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT) to protect the Pope's visit to Jakarta.
