With the theme "Humanitarian Journey - Giving and Receiving Love", Humanitarian Month 2024 takes place from May 1-31, including 2 peak weeks, from May 8 (International Red Cross and Red Crescent Day) to May 19 (the birthday of President Ho Chi Minh and the first Honorary President of the Association), the Provincial Red Cross (RC) has implemented many practical and meaningful humanitarian support activities, helping those in difficult circumstances in the province. Following the staff of the Red Cross Association of Viet Tri city, we visited the house of Ms. Dang Thi Hoa in Zone 3, Song Lo commune, Viet Tri city. Ms. Hoa's family is near-poor in the commune . She lives with her 85-year-old mother. As the main breadwinner in the family, however, due to complications of diabetes, Ms. Hoa has necrosis of the soles of her feet and is no longer able to work. Her life depends only on her mother's Social Insurance money. The life of the mother and daughter was already difficult, now it became even more difficult. Understanding the situation of Mrs. Hoa's family, the City Red Cross Association visited, encouraged and gave 2 million VND in support to the family.

In Thanh Ba district, many meaningful community-oriented activities were organized. In particular, the District Red Cross Association coordinated with the District Health Center to organize medical examinations, health consultations and free medicine provision for 300 people, including poor households, people with disabilities, and victims of Agent Orange in Son Cuong and Chi Tien communes. Doctors directly examined, prescribed and dispensed medicine to treat diseases, advised on prevention of some common diseases, and helped people raise their awareness of health care with a total value of nearly 36 million VND in medicine provided.

It can be seen that, since the beginning of May, the Red Cross Associations at all levels in the province have enthusiastically organized many meaningful activities towards the community, aiming to spread the sharing and help of all classes of people in humanitarian and charitable activities, contributing to poverty reduction in the locality, and working with the Party Committee and government to effectively carry out social security work in the area.

Up to now, the Red Cross Association at all levels has called for, mobilized, connected and coordinated resources worth nearly 900 million VND; supported 20 individuals with humanitarian addresses; 1 school kitchen worth 150 million VND; built 5 new Red Cross houses with a total value of 500 million VND; supported the livelihoods of 8 households in 2 communes, worth 120 million VND... Thereby, building a united community, a society rich in humanity, full of love.

Comrade Bui Van Huan - Chairman of the Provincial Red Cross Association said: “To achieve the above goals, from the beginning of the year, the Provincial Red Cross Association has advised and proposed to the Party Committees and authorities at all levels to organize humanitarian activities with many practical and meaningful contents. At the same time, we have promoted resource mobilization and built a humanitarian fund to proactively carry out humanitarian assistance activities. Support for vulnerable groups in the community is carried out in a sustainable manner, contributing to ensuring social security in the area”.

In recent days, the Red Cross Associations at all levels in the province have brought much joy to the poor, disadvantaged families, especially students in the province. With the spirit of mutual love, the Humanitarian Month has attracted many organizations, individuals, and businesses to actively participate in contributing resources to humanitarian activities so that humanitarian values ​​can spread widely in the community. Currently, 100% of districts, cities, and associations have organized practical activities, oriented towards the community, propaganda, and humanitarian assistance. Depending on the needs of the subjects, the Red Cross Associations at all levels have selected appropriate forms of support.

The humanitarian activities implemented not only contribute to the good implementation of social security policies, but also help poor families, people in difficult circumstances, as well as vulnerable people in society have more confidence and motivation to improve their lives.
