Vietnam's consistent policy is that disputes in the East Sea between relevant Parties need to be resolved by peaceful means in accordance with international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), respecting diplomatic and legal processes, contributing to peace and cooperation in the East Sea.

On July 15, 2023, in response to a reporter's question asking for Vietnam's viewpoint on the occasion of the 7th anniversary of the Permanent Court of Arbitration's Final Judgment on the East Sea case, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam Pham Thu Hang stated:

“Vietnam's consistent policy is that disputes in the East Sea between relevant Parties need to be resolved by peaceful means in accordance with international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), respecting diplomatic and legal processes, contributing to peace and cooperation in the East Sea.

On this occasion, Vietnam once again affirms its sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos in accordance with international law, and its legitimate rights over Vietnam's maritime zones, established in accordance with UNCLOS."
