The volunteer group Sinnar Youth Association announced that on August 15, RSF launched a bloody attack on the village of Jalqni in the Abu Hujar area of Sinnar state, after a five-day siege, killing at least 80 people.

The statement said that “the attack occurred after the RSF attempted to kidnap the village girls, but the residents resisted, leading to this massacre.” It added that RSF forces responded to the residents’ resistance by opening fire indiscriminately and storming their homes. RSF has yet to comment on the incident.

Since June, the RSF has controlled much of Sinnar state, including the state capital Singa, while the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) control the eastern Sinnar region.

Fighting in Sinnar state has displaced more than 725,000 people, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The deadly conflict between the SAF and RSF has been ongoing since April 15, 2023, killing at least 16,650 people.

According to recent United Nations data, an estimated 10.7 million Sudanese are now internally displaced, with some 2.2 million seeking refuge in neighboring countries.
