On April 27, at its 142nd session, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) awarded the right to host the 2030 Winter Olympics to host country France.

After Sweden and Switzerland officially withdrew last November, France became the sole candidate for the 26th Winter Olympics.

The international sporting event is scheduled to be held in the Alps in southern France.

French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), sharing on social network X: “Thank you, International Olympic Committee, for believing in our country and our majestic mountains. Congratulations to the authorities and all those who have worked for this success. Let us work together for an innovative, sustainable and inclusive Olympic season.”

Renaud Muselier, President of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Regional Council, assured that the 2030 Winter Olympics will be “the greenest Olympics in history”. Faced with the challenges of climate change, the authorities of the region are ensuring that the Winter Olympics can still be held in the most efficient way possible.

In response to International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach's call for France to provide a "financial guarantee" before October 1, President Emmanuel Macron said: "I confirm my full commitment, as well as the full commitment of France, to this sporting event.

The French President also added that he will ask the next Prime Minister to not only approve a "financial guarantee", but will also issue a law called "Olympic".
