From June 5 to June 9, the Asia Direct Cable (ADC) submarine cable project council held a conference on the submarine optical cable project with the largest bandwidth in Vietnam in Ho Chi Minh City. The event was hosted by Viettel Solutions Corporation - a member of the Military Industry - Telecommunications Group (Viettel).
The conference took place over 5 days with the participation of 8 investors including: NT, China Telecom, China Unicom, PLDT Inc., Singtel, SoftBank Corp., Tata Communications, Viettel and contractor NEC. The main focus of the conference was on resolving problems in the implementation process with the aim of putting the cable line into operation early in 2024.

During the conference, investors reviewed the entire project progress, and discussed topics revolving around both technical and commercial issues. The conference approved the plan for installing equipment at the remaining landing station, and determined the expected completion time of the cable landing station in Singapore, which is also the final landing point of the ADC project. In addition, plans for project integration, measurement, acceptance, personnel training plans at the landing stations, terms and adjustments related to the rights and responsibilities of the ADC system's member partners were also discussed, ensuring the progress of the entire project.

Previously in 2022, Viettel officially announced the ADC international submarine cable line landing in Quy Nhon, Binh Dinh, Vietnam. This is a cable line that connects to all 3 largest IP Hubs in Asia (Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore), and is also the submarine optical cable line with the largest bandwidth capacity in Vietnam.
According to the Ministry of Information and Communications, the construction of new submarine optical cable lines is necessary to accelerate Vietnam's goal of becoming a Digital Hub in the region. Therefore, Vietnam needs to develop 4 to 6 new cable lines by 2030 and Vietnamese telecommunications enterprises need to proactively lead and represent investment groups and joint ventures to search, evaluate and propose investments.
As the only enterprise in Vietnam investing in the ADC cable line, and also the owner of the cable landing station in Quy Nhon and owning 18Tbps of international capacity on this cable line, Viettel is becoming the enterprise with the largest international connection infrastructure in Vietnam.
ADC (Asia Direct Cable) is a 9,800km long submarine cable connecting China (Hong Kong and Guangdong Province - China), Japan, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. The ADC cable system is designed with 8 fiber pairs (FP) and is capable of transmitting more than 140 Tbps of data traffic, allowing high capacity transmission across East Asia and Southeast Asia. This is a submarine optical cable line using the most modern transmission technology, connecting countries in the Asia-Pacific region, with a total initial investment of 290 million USD. ADC is capable of supporting applications requiring increasing bandwidth, thanks to technological advances in the fields of 5G, cloud, Internet of Things and artificial intelligence. This will further expand the communication network in the region . |
