Cybercrime activity on Telegram platform increases by 53%

Telegram, a messaging app with over 900 million monthly active users, has become a favorite tool for cybercriminals. With its high-security features and the fact that it promotes itself as an independent platform that does not collect user data, Telegram gives bad actors a sense of security while carrying out illegal activities.

According to Alexey Bannikov, an analyst at Kaspersky, Telegram not only makes it easy to find or create underground communities, but also lacks a reputation rating system like on dark web forums. This makes the platform attractive to those with low technical skills and experience, leading to increased fraud, which seriously affects the participating members.

Cybercrime on Telegram is on the rise.

In addition to regular cybercrime, Telegram is also home to hacktivist groups, politically motivated hackers who take advantage of Telegram’s popularity and ability to quickly disseminate content to carry out DDoS attacks, incite sabotage, and publicize data stolen from organizations.

Thanks to its massive user base and rapid spread, Telegram has become a powerful tool for hacktivists, who use the platform to spread political propaganda and launch cyberattacks on critical infrastructure.

The growth of cybercrime on Telegram is posing new challenges for cybersecurity. In addition to being a place for illegal transactions, Telegram has also become a gathering place for political hacker groups with the aim of causing instability. Experts warn that, without effective controls, Telegram could become an even more dangerous tool in the hands of cybercriminals.
