Developing from a medical facility that could not perform open heart surgery, the Cardiovascular Center has grown strongly to become a complete and strong cardiovascular center nationwide, recognized by domestic and international friends and trusted by the people.

The Cardiovascular Center is the first facility in the country to successfully apply open heart surgery with endoscopic support and full endoscopic surgery; The first facility to apply 3D endoscopic technique in open heart surgery, organizing many scientific seminars related to this topic. Putting the cardiovascular intervention unit into operation in 2013, making the center a complete diagnostic and treatment unit.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Lien Huong proposed a number of tasks in the coming time for the Cardiovascular Center, E Hospital such as: Firstly, synchronous development, improving examination and treatment capabilities: focusing on promoting difficult techniques such as Hybrid, endoscopic surgery, cardiovascular intervention, expanding medical examination and treatment activities...;

Second, develop a training program to improve professional qualifications for domestic medical staff and study abroad to be able to implement routine and further develop modern techniques; Third, continue to coordinate with charitable organizations to maintain screening programs for poor patients; Fourth, expand international cooperation...

On the Hospital side, Dr. Nguyen Cong Huu, Director of Hospital E shared that Prof. Dr. Le Ngoc Thanh, Principal of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hanoi National University, former Director of Hospital E, was the one who laid the foundation for the formation of the Cardiovascular Center, so more than anyone, he understood the initial difficulties and hardships of the entire team and medical staff here. However, with enthusiasm and passion for the profession, the doctors of the Center overcame those difficulties.

Dr. Nguyen Cong Huu recalled that 15 years ago, the Prime Minister and leaders of the Ministry of Health personally came to cut the ribbon to inaugurate the Cardiovascular Center, E Hospital with the Decision to establish on August 26, 2009, put into operation in February 2010, partly helping patients not have to wait for heart surgery.

The center was established and formed on the basis of a complete surgical team (surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses) from Viet Duc Hospital, internal medicine doctors from major hospitals such as Bach Mai, National Children's Hospital and the cardiology department of E Hospital.

In less than 6 months (from August 2009 to February 2010), the Center completed its apparatus and quickly began medical examination and treatment with the first 3 successful surgeries (including 2 congenital heart surgeries and 1 mediastinal tumor surgery in adults).

In 2010, the Center performed surgery on more than 600 cases of cardiovascular and thoracic diseases. Two years later, the Center successfully performed more than 1,000 cases.

Speaking emotionally at the special event of the Cardiovascular Center, Prof. Dr. Le Ngoc Thanh, founder of the Cardiovascular Center, also recalled the hardships of the early days of establishing the Cardiovascular Center and expressed gratitude to the doctors, nurses, staff, and workers who have worked together to build the brand for the Cardiovascular Center, E Hospital.

Prof. Thanh affirmed that after 15 years of construction and development, with expertise and modern techniques, the Cardiovascular Center, E Hospital has developed into a leading complete cardiovascular center in the country including surgery, internal medicine and cardiovascular intervention with modern, synchronous equipment ensuring examination and treatment of heart, blood vessel and chest diseases for patients.

The team of excellent doctors has mastered many advanced techniques in treating difficult cardiovascular diseases and has left its mark on the world cardiovascular map. Up to now, the Cardiovascular Center has affirmed its position and become a medical examination and treatment address trusted by many people and highly appreciated by colleagues.

Regarding the Center's recent activities, according to Dr. Phan Thao Nguyen, Deputy Director of E Hospital, in charge of the Cardiovascular Center, each year the Center provides inpatient treatment for 8,000 patients, including surgery for more than 1,300 patients with heart, vascular and thoracic diseases; Routinely implementing difficult techniques such as Fontan and Glenn surgeries, coronary artery bypass grafting, heart valve replacement in elderly patients, severe heart failure, etc.

In particular, the Center is the first unit to perform routine endoscopic open heart surgery, with the largest number of over 900 cases and a high success rate of nearly 96%; has many published works domestically and internationally and transferred this method to other units.

Scientific research in the field of endoscopic cardiac surgery applied in practice at the Cardiovascular Center, E Hospital is increasingly appreciated by the international community and leaves its mark on the world medical map...

Currently, the Center is the only surgical facility in the country that routinely performs endoscopic heart surgery using a 3D system, using endoscopy through holes smaller than 1.2cm for a number of cardiovascular diseases.

The center is currently one of the largest cardiovascular intervention facilities in the country, with more than 24,000 cases in both adults and children.

The number of interventions has been increasing steadily over the years. Doctors perform techniques such as cardiac catheterization, coronary angiography, stent placement, occlusion of ventricular septal defects, atrial septal defects, percutaneous aortic valve replacement, hybrid thoracoabdominal aortic intervention, intervention for chronic coronary artery occlusion, percutaneous pulmonary valve replacement, pacemaker implantation, radiofrequency arrhythmia treatment, lower limb intervention with laser and high-frequency waves, etc.

The center is one of the core hospitals transferring cardiovascular technology to hospitals in the satellite hospital system under the project of the Ministry of Health such as Bac Giang, Thai Binh, Ha Giang, Yen Bai...
