Vietnam Airlines Group (including Vietnam Airlines, Pacific Airlines and VASCO) has just announced that it will continue to add more than 66,200 seats, equivalent to more than 310 domestic flights during the peak Tet period from January 25 to February 24 (ie from December 15, the year of the Cat to January 15, the year of the Dragon).

This increase in flights brings the total number of domestic and international flights of Vietnam Airlines Group during the peak Tet holiday to approximately 2.64 million seats, equivalent to 12,374 flights.

The additional flights are mainly concentrated on domestic routes between Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, Da Nang, Hai Phong, Vinh, Thanh Hoa, Quy Nhon, Hue, Quang Nam, Tuy Hoa, Da Lat, Cam Ranh, Buon Ma Thuot, Pleiku, Phu Quoc. The flights serve both the needs of returning home and the needs of passengers traveling during the Tet holiday.

During the peak Tet holiday period, due to high travel demand, Vietnam Airlines recommends that passengers proactively plan to buy air tickets early.

In addition, passengers should check-in in advance via the website, mobile application, hotline 1900 6265 (telephone check-in) or at self-check-in counters (kiosk check-in). Passengers should be at the airport 2 hours before departure for domestic flights, 3 hours before departure for international flights.

Recently, Bamboo Airways also welcomed the second Airbus A320 aircraft to join its fleet to serve the peak of the 2024 Lunar New Year. With the expansion of its fleet, Bamboo Airways plans to increase its capacity by 20%, increase the frequency of operations on the main routes Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City, between Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang, local routes with high demand between Ho Chi Minh City and Vinh, Thanh Hoa, Hai Phong..., as well as increase night flights on the routes between Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, Da Nang, Vinh...

According to the latest data from the Civil Aviation Authority, the total number of flights during the Lunar New Year this year is expected to reach approximately 33,800, an increase of 14% over the same period in 2023 and an increase of 21% over the current regular flight schedule. Of which, the number of domestic flights is expected to reach 24,200, an increase of 2% over the same period and 27% over the current regular domestic flight schedule.

As of January 4, flight tickets from Ho Chi Minh City to 9 local airports Hue, Pleiku, Tuy Hoa, Thanh Hoa, Quy Nhon, Chu Lai, Quang Binh, Vinh, Quang Ninh have reached a booking rate of 85 - 95% (the flight to Van Don alone reached 100%). From 13 local airports to Ho Chi Minh City, the routes with high booking rates fall on the days after Tet from January 4 - 10 (from February 13 - 19) from 79 - 93%. In addition, the flight from Hanoi to Vinh before Tet has filled 99% of the available seats.

Meanwhile, the main routes such as Ho Chi Minh City - Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City - Hanoi, Hanoi - Da Nang, Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City have an average occupancy rate of only 30 - 40% during the period from December 24 to January 6 (from February 3 - 15, 2024). The reason is that these routes have the second highest number of seats offered among the total number of seats that airlines open for sale during Tet, so there are still many tickets.
