Aviation achieves double-digit growth during April 30-May 1 holiday

During the April 30 - May 1, 2025 holiday, airports and Vietnam Airlines operated continuously and smoothly, basically meeting the travel needs of people and tourists.

Serving nearly 2.1 million passengers

This year's holiday lasts 5 days, starting from April 30 to May 4, but right from the previous days, under the close and timely direction of the leaders of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, air transport exploitation activities have grown and taken place at a high pace.

According to the results of implementation and preliminary forecasts from April 29 to May 4, at airports nationwide, there were more than 12,610 takeoffs and landings; an increase of 19.45% over the same period last year.

Total passenger throughput reached more than 2.09 million passengers and 23,360 tons of cargo, up 25.83% in passengers and 18.57% in cargo over the same period last year.

Tan Son Nhat International Airport alone had about 4,320 takeoffs and landings; 709,600 passengers and 8,400 tons of cargo passing through the port, corresponding to a 14.3% increase in takeoffs and landings, a 19.54% increase in passengers and a 0.73% increase in cargo compared to the same period last year.

On average, during this period, at airports nationwide, there were more than 2,000 takeoffs and landings each day; more than 340,000 passengers and about 3,800 tons of goods passing through the ports.

Specifically, at Tan Son Nhat International Airport, April 29 saw the largest number of flights with 734 takeoffs and landings and more than 128,000 passengers; the lowest number of flights was May 2 with 700 takeoffs and landings and more than 111,000 passengers passing through the airport.

Two other major airports, Noi Bai and Da Nang International Airports, also recorded double-digit growth over the same period.

At Noi Bai International Airport, it is expected that there will be about 3,480 takeoffs and landings with more than 578,480 passengers and 12,920 tons of cargo, up 24.62%, 29.67% and 24.4% respectively over the same period.

At Da Nang International Airport, there were about 1,670 takeoffs and landings; 271,170 passengers and 1,000 tons of cargo, up 23.16%, 26.68% and 207.97% respectively over the same period last year.

“The preparation and implementation of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam and units in the aviation industry to serve passengers traveling to/from Ho Chi Minh City on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification, as well as domestic operations and especially at Tan Son Nhat International Airport, have been continuous, stable, and promptly handled and resolved arising issues,” said Mr. Uong Viet Dung, Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam.

Premises for growth target this year

For Vietnamese airlines, although in the early days there were flight delays mainly due to the conversion of ground operations at the airport; however, under the close, urgent and timely direction of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam and the urgent participation and close coordination of units in the industry, passenger and cargo transportation activities during the holidays of Vietnamese airlines were still maintained stably, recording high growth.

Specifically, from April 29 to May 4, 2025, Vietnamese airlines transported about 986,800 passengers and 6,009 tons of cargo, an increase of 29.81% in passengers and 3.87% in cargo over the same period. Of which, on international routes, 330,740 passengers and 2,890 tons of cargo were transported, an increase of 31.61% and 10.11%, respectively.

On domestic routes, Vietnamese airlines transported 656,006 passengers and 3,200 tons of cargo, an increase of 28.92% in passengers and a decrease of 1.1% in cargo.

In his general assessment of the overall air transport operation, Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam Uong Viet Dung said that the service and transport operation during the April 30 - May 1 holiday this year was stable, continuous, and smooth, basically meeting the travel needs of people and tourists. Relevant units and functional departments participated in coordinating and promptly handling arising issues; without affecting the security and safety of operations.

“The high growth in exploitation activities during this period is a concrete result of the effectiveness of management, implementation and coordination of agencies and units in the industry. This is also the basis for agencies and units to continue implementing tasks and activities, preparing for the upcoming summer peak and striving to complete the growth targets of the aviation industry this year,” said Mr. Uong Viet Dung./.
