According to the reporter, after more than 1 month of construction, the "Shark Jaw" building in the square area has been completely dismantled and relocated, creating a very large space.

This is an important step in the plan to expand public space around Hoan Kiem Lake.

Local authorities and functional forces are focusing on renovating and beautifying Dong Kinh - Nghia Thuc Square area to serve the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2.

According to the plan, the renovation will take place simultaneously in both directions: the side adjacent to the "Shark Jaw" building and the facade facing Hoan Kiem Lake.

During this period, the Hoan Kiem ward government also completed the relocation of the parking lot on Dinh Tien Hoang street, resurfaced the road, repaired the median strip and reorganized traffic.

The existing tree system will be kept intact; mobile planters will be added to adjust the space during the weekend walking street. The entire roadbed in the square area will be paved with concrete, creating a flat surface with a drainage slope towards the lake shore.

Along with that, the area of Thuy Ta restaurant located near Hoan Kiem Lake is also being demolished for its non-original architecture.

It is expected that this 2-storey building will be restored to its appearance nearly 90 years ago, with an Asian-style curved roof and round columns extending out to the water.

Phase 1 of the project to expand public spaces around Hoan Kiem Lake will be completed in August, to celebrate the A80 anniversary.

When completed, the Dong Kinh - Nghia Thuc square area and connecting streets will create an open space of about 1.4 hectares serving residents, tourists and cultural and entertainment activities in the area.
