Specifically, traders in the provinces of Ben Tre, Binh Phuoc, Ho Chi Minh City, Tien Giang, and Tra Vinh are purchasing live pigs at 62,000 VND/kg, which is the lowest price in the region.

On the other hand, traders in Vung Tau, Binh Duong, An Giang, Can Tho, and Ca Mau are purchasing live pigs at 64,000 VND/kg, the highest selling price in the region.

In general, the price of live pigs today remains stable nationwide. Currently, the surveyed price nationwide fluctuates between 62,000 - 67,000 VND/kg.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development forecasts that from now until the end of the year, food prices in general and pork in particular will tend to stabilize due to abundant supply and stable demand thanks to maintained domestic raw material prices.

Looking back at the price of live pigs since the beginning of the year, it can be seen that from January, the price of live pigs recovered (52,500 VND/kg) and gradually increased, reaching its peak in June, reaching 68,500 VND/kg.

Since June, pig farming has tended to reduce herds, so by the end of July, the price of live pigs nationwide had decreased by 0.4 - 1.6% compared to the average of June, but was still high at 64,000 - 66,500 VND/kg, with some places and some days reaching over 70,000 VND/kg. With this price, farmers have made a profit.

According to the Vietnam Livestock Association, in 2024, the domestic price of live pigs will be about 12% higher than the average price in 2023. With an average price of about 62,000 VND/kg of live pigs, farmers will earn a profit of 1.5 - 2 million VND/head when selling to the market. The reason for the increase in live pig prices is due to a decrease in supply, not because of increased market demand.
