The North is "shaken" by the sharp drop in pork prices
The pig market in the North is in turmoil. Hung Yen has suffered the sharpest drop in the region, up to 2,000 VND/kg, pushing the price down to only 58,000 VND/kg. What is worrying is that many other provinces and cities are not out of the downward trend.
Bac Ninh, Hanoi , Hai Phong and Phu Tho all decreased by 1,000 VND/kg, currently purchasing at 59,000 VND/kg. Ninh Binh, Cao Bang and Thai Nguyen provinces also decreased by 1,000 VND/kg, down to 58,000 VND/kg. In Lang Son, Quang Ninh, Lao Cai, Lai Chau, Dien Bien and Son La, prices all decreased by 1,000 VND/kg, recording the lowest price in the region at 57,000 VND/kg. In the storm of price reductions, Tuyen Quang is a rare province that has maintained the price at 59,000 VND/kg.

Meanwhile, many other provinces maintained stable prices. Thanh Hoa and Nghe An remained at VND56,000/kg, Quang Tri, Hue, Da Nang and Quang Ngai maintained prices at VND55,000/kg. The South unexpectedly decreased sharply in many provinces and cities.
The southern pig market also recorded a significant adjustment when many provinces and cities simultaneously reduced the price by 1,000 VND/kg. Currently, the price of pigs here fluctuates from 60,000 to 61,000 VND/kg.
Specifically, prices in Dong Nai, Tay Ninh, Dong Thap and Ca Mau are currently trading at 61,000 VND/kg. An Giang, Ho Chi Minh City and Vinh Long provinces have all dropped to 60,000 VND/kg. Can Tho is the only bright spot in the South, continuing to maintain the price of 61,000 VND/kg.

Two more outbreaks of African swine fever, destroying more than 5 tons of pigs
According to the Agriculture and Environment newspaper, Ho Chi Minh City recorded two more outbreaks of African swine fever in Long Hai and Xuan Son communes, bringing the total number of outbreaks in the area to 4. In total, 119 pigs weighing more than 5 tons were destroyed.
The Department of Animal Husbandry and Crop Production of Ba Ria - Vung Tau (under the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ho Chi Minh City) confirmed two new outbreaks in Long Hai and Xuan Son communes. These outbreaks were detected since the end of July 2025.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Trung, Head of the Sub-Department, said that signs of suspected disease in pigs were recorded on August 4 and 6. Local veterinary forces took samples and sent them to the Central Veterinary Diagnosis and Testing Center II. The results confirmed that both samples were positive for African swine fever virus.
Immediately after the results were available, the authorities cordoned off the area, sprayed disinfectant and destroyed all infected pigs. Specifically, at Mr. Nguyen Van Nhan's household (Son Lap hamlet, Xuan Son commune), 31 pigs were destroyed; at Mr. Pham Van Thuan's household (Phuoc Lam hamlet, Long Hai commune), 7/8 pigs were also treated according to regulations.
In addition, on August 13, veterinary forces destroyed 11 more pigs at the previously discovered outbreak in Nghia Thanh commune. Since the end of July 2025, African swine fever has appeared in 4 outbreaks in the Ba Ria - Vung Tau area, forcing the destruction of 119 pigs with a total weight of more than 5.2 tons.
