Two more outbreaks of African swine fever, destroying more than 5 tons of pigs

According to the Agriculture and Environment newspaper, Ho Chi Minh City recorded two more outbreaks of African swine fever in Long Hai and Xuan Son communes, bringing the total number of outbreaks in the area to 4. In total, 119 pigs weighing more than 5 tons were destroyed.

The Department of Animal Husbandry and Crop Production of Ba Ria - Vung Tau (under the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ho Chi Minh City) confirmed two new outbreaks in Long Hai and Xuan Son communes. These outbreaks were detected since the end of July 2025.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Trung, Head of the Sub-Department, said that signs of suspected disease in pigs were recorded on August 4 and 6. Local veterinary forces took samples and sent them to the Central Veterinary Diagnosis and Testing Center II. The results confirmed that both samples were positive for African swine fever virus.

Immediately after the results were available, the authorities cordoned off the area, sprayed disinfectant and destroyed all infected pigs. Specifically, at Mr. Nguyen Van Nhan's household (Son Lap hamlet, Xuan Son commune), 31 pigs were destroyed; at Mr. Pham Van Thuan's household (Phuoc Lam hamlet, Long Hai commune), 7/8 pigs were also treated according to regulations.

In addition, on August 13, veterinary forces destroyed 11 more pigs at the previously discovered outbreak in Nghia Thanh commune. Since the end of July 2025, African swine fever has appeared in 4 outbreaks in the Ba Ria - Vung Tau area, forcing the destruction of 119 pigs with a total weight of more than 5.2 tons.
