The 2024 Southeast Asian Futsal Championship will feature 9 teams and will be divided into two groups. The matches are scheduled to take place from November 2 to November 10 at Terminal Hall (Nakhon Ratchasima Province, Thailand). To prepare for the tournament, the Vietnamese team will gather again on October 10 in Ho Chi Minh City. At the same time, coach Diego Giustozzi and his team will have a training trip and play 2 friendly matches in Thailand before the tournament.

According to the announcement of the Southeast Asian Football Federation (AFF), the Vietnamese futsal team is in Group A, along with opponents Thailand, Malaysia, Brunei, and East Timor. Meanwhile, in Group B, the candidate for the championship is the Indonesian team, in the same group with the Myanmar, Australia, and Cambodia futsal teams.

The reason why the Vietnamese team is in the same group with Thailand is because the "Golden Star Warriors" are only in group 2 due to their poor performance in recent tournaments. In the 2022 tournament, the Vietnamese futsal team only finished 3rd, after Thailand and Indonesia. These are also the two highest-seeded teams in the 2024 tournament.

However, in terms of the strength correlation in Group A, the Vietnamese futsal team is expected to not face many difficulties. The main opponent of Ho Van Y and his teammates in the upcoming tournament is still the Thai futsal team - a team with superior strength in Southeast Asia. Thailand is the champion of the tournament in the last 9 times it has been held. In a broader sense, the Thai futsal team has won 16/17 tournaments.

In the past, the Vietnamese team often had unfavorable results when facing the Thai futsal team. However, the Vietnamese futsal team still has the right to hope to create a surprise when it made Thailand "sweat" many times to be able to win. At the 2024 Asian futsal tournament taking place in April, the Thai team could only overcome the Vietnamese team with a close score of 2-1.

Meanwhile, the Vietnamese team has a good head-to-head record against the Malaysian futsal team. At the 2021 SEA Games, the Vietnamese futsal team beat Malaysia with a score of 7-1. Most recently, in two friendly matches with Malaysia before the 2024 Asian Cup, the Vietnamese futsal team won one match (3-0) and lost one match (1-3).
