According to the Department of Tourism , after 1 month of consolidation, the province welcomed a 31.8% increase in the number of tourists visiting and traveling compared to the same period in 2024, of which international tourists were over 101,000, an increase of 51.9%; total revenue increased by 92.2%. Phu Quoc Special Zone continued to affirm itself as a leading destination when welcoming nearly 790,000 tourists, an increase of 24.2%, including nearly 97,000 international tourists, an increase of 53.4%; total revenue reached VND 3,278 billion, an increase of 99.7%.
“After the merger, the unit immediately started to perfect the organizational structure; at the same time, it immediately deployed tasks and annual work plans. Tourism and foreign affairs activities in the province ensured continuity and regularity; many targets in the first month after the merger exceeded the plan and maintained stable growth,” said Director of the Department of Tourism Bui Quoc Thai.

From a business perspective, Mr. Tran Van Tam - representative of a travel agency in the province said that, in addition to exploiting the existing products quite well; after merging with the province, the company focused on developing new products, tours, and routes with more attractive and unique inter-regional characteristics, with many flexible experiences from cultural - historical, ecological, sea, island tourism...
“We are researching more long-term tourism products (4-5 days, 5-6 days) with reasonable and complete itineraries, helping tourists have more experiences and increase the spending value of tourists coming to An Giang ,” Mr. Tam shared.
Nguyen Minh Hoang, an employee at a beverage shop in Ta Pa Lake, Tri Ton Commune, said that recently, the number of tourists visiting Ta Pa Lake has increased, but they are mainly individual customers. “The majority of tourists coming here are young people, many of whom have license plates from the old Kien Giang province. Maybe because of the province merger, young people also want to know more about the destination of the new province,” Hoang said.
Restructuring the tourism industry
The Department of Tourism affirmed that in order to fully exploit the potential and strengths of the province's tourism, the industry is focusing on reviewing, updating, and integrating the plan to investigate tourism resources of An Giang province, developing the provincial tourism development project for the period 2025 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, ensuring synchronous tourism development, maximizing potential and advantages, especially developing tourism spaces in the province in the new period. Participate in the local promotion program in Korea, China in 2025 and some other activities.
“We focus on building products, positioning tourism brands associated with the main, unique image, imbued with the cultural identity of the land and people of An Giang as a competitive advantage with tourism markets; strengthening connections and cooperation in developing domestic and foreign tourism; focusing resources on creating breakthroughs, especially in connecting traffic and training human resources, digital transformation, green tourism transformation; promoting the role of the community in building a civilized and friendly tourism community...”, Mr. Bui Quoc Thai added.
At the same time, the province promotes tourism investment promotion activities, encourages strategic investors to invest in complexes, large-scale projects, high-quality shopping and entertainment centers; welcomes domestic and international famtrip and presstrip delegations to survey and connect with An Giang tourism; increases the participation of private enterprises in tourism marketing activities with target markets...
The Department of Tourism said that from August 4 to 8, the unit organized a delegation to conduct a field survey of resources and tourist areas and spots in the province to serve the orientation of building a tourism development program and investing in infrastructure connecting tourist areas and spots in the province. The delegation also included many tourism service businesses, so the survey trip opened up opportunities to connect destinations with travel agencies to organize attractive tours and routes, bringing more tourists to visit An Giang in the future. |
