Volunteers will be assigned to high schools in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City from December. They will work with local teachers to improve English skills for Vietnamese students, helping to expand educational and employment opportunities.

“This is the largest group of Peace Corps interns to work in Vietnam, marking the organization’s continued commitment to building relationships and trust with partners,” said Mikel Herrington, Peace Corps Vietnam Director.

Mr Herrington added that the event “marks an important milestone as we celebrate five years of cooperation under the Implementation Agreement between our two countries in 2025.”

Immediately upon arrival in Vietnam, volunteers began a comprehensive 10-week training program, which included Vietnamese language classes, Teaching English as a Second Language (TEFL) training sessions, and teaching internships with local teachers.

The training will help them develop the skills needed to adapt to the local context and work effectively in the Vietnamese education system. Volunteers who complete the program will be formally sworn in in December and begin their work.

As the two countries prepare to celebrate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2025, the presence of Peace Corps volunteers affirms a shared commitment to deepening people-to-people ties and strengthening bilateral relations.

This new group of volunteers will bring the total number of Peace Corps members serving in Vietnam to 36.
